Not been around for a few weeks so Hi to everyone
Paidinchickens - I think you are being very sensible & I certainly dont think you are paranoid - well done
Cheryl & Erme - Congrats too
Tumpty & Rising - You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find the Prince!
Saw the comments on toe post sandals - I'm afraid I think they're as bad a thongs - can't get on with either (Cheese cutters both ends!!)
Been really busy as DH is in the process of knocking a big hole in the sitting room wall to put the wood burner in. We cleared the room out & my elderly but still usable carpet went on Freecycle. The settee's are stacked on top of each other, I've no carpet, curtains, furniture (but he's managed to keep the TV there!!) & we're using an old camping gas fire if we need any heat in the evening. The whole house seems to be covered in dust - but my granny always said nobody died of dust! We've had the first inspection from the local building control - all OK so far. I'm lucky to have a handy hubby though 'cos I reckon he's saved us about 2k - 'spose I better treat him (when he's finished!)
I'll be lurking for a little while so keep up all the good work ladies (and gents?)

good going erme!
wow sandra that's fantastic, if you can drop by that much there's always hope!
not spent anything today... didnt even have the planed takeaway! (ate a random assortment from fridge that before would probably have been thrown away!)
my day got turned upsdie down on the news a close friend had a camper van fire, whilst driving along, luckily she and her lovely dog got out ok but the van is a write off. very scary. it's upset about 9 peoples plans for getting on / getting thier stuff on site to glastonbury festival but we have all rallied around and with blitz spirit things seem to be righting themselves. quite a reminder to get the car serviced when it should be, (the camper had just been serviced) and to be thankful for what we do have as it is so easily lost.
we're trying to be as frugal at the festival as we can.. we'll be fed vegan twice a day and i've stocked up on, amongst other things. tinned mackrel in tomatoe sauce (+bakers on site = frugal healthy sandwiches that dont need spread), cupasoup and mugshots (home b's 28p not tes!os 62p!!), and better for the environment than pot noodle. these should see us through any chilly evenings without a stop at a chinese food stall or chippy! (out there in Old Stype somewhere is my almost full camping kit list if anyone's curious).
so i wont be around for just over a week... good luck with your goals everyone. bye bye!
Mr A and Mr M do cuppa soups (just as good as Bachelors) for 15p for 4 which is even cheaper...
Like you're 'how not to eat out at a festival' list...well impressed :T
And do you use Safari as well cos I am noticing some of the spellings and thinking 'safari's auto spell check - :P' which does things like make Paypal payola if you don't capitalise it..
Business cards should be here by Friday if I don't go away...
Am two days no smokes now...
Am hungry (really hungry today for some reason)....at least I slept okay...
time to make self a bowl of porridge methinks

Well just got back from my fete and I have certainly not been frugal!
I spent twenty pounds!
I bought a lovely Liberty Blue plate to add to my collection, two skirts, a pair of gap jeans, a pair of Levis (which may not be quite long enough for my long limbed daughter but she can always turn them into shorts), a top, a tomato pant, huge mint, huge lupin, tray of lobella (or something similar) and a rather sad virbernum which I was looking for and got reduced, ooh and also a lovely Madonna and child picture though no idea where that will go!
Anyway that's the end of the generation game!
Of course I had to fortify myself with tea and cake and I did get a free local newspaper!
Oooh I forgot my piece de resistance a brand new with tags long flannelette granny nighty!( I am just so sexy!)Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

Hello fellow frugallers:j
I've had my friend over for lunch today- we always keep it simple so reduced pizza it was followed by icecream. This time I tried out the Sainsbury's basic icecream cones and can heartily recommend them:D
We walked out to the local nature reserve from here- on this occasion we renewed our annual pass [£6] but I think it's a good investment because we shall use it a lot over the coming months and it will quickly pay for itself.
We've all had our wigs trimmed this afternoon- I use a mobile hairdresser which considerably keeps the costs down.
Decluttering of airing cupboard has gone on at Gnat Bottomed Towers today- it has been a worthwhile exercise as I have rediscovered some old curtains that I can recommission as curtain lining for the front room and some sheets which will convert rather nicely into pillow cases as they no longer fit the beds we have.:D

Sorry Erme - its taken me over 30 years to get this one trained :rotfl:& he's always busted my budgets!!!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -

:rotfl: ....well I was round at my friend's house yesterday and saw the most gorgeous new flat mate who has bi polar and is just learning about independent living again....ooh err....We are meeting for coffee on Monday :j
I had nightmares last night and over spent on e-cig stuff yesterday (meant just to get blunt syringes @ 90c each or something...ended up with big carts - 1.8ml; coffee flavoured e-liquid and something else I forget what...and the exchange rate didn't like me cos like $40 came in at £26  plus the £13 for the juice/e-liquid...Just pray the juice from china [reputable site - recommended on forums] doesn't kill me LOL)
So yeah like 70 hours no smokes now :j..bit worried I still need to top up with spray ..but we'll see...maybe once it's gone it's gone and i won't buy any more? Here's hoping...chemist won't like me if I'm buying spray every 4 weeks...

Have been doing alright recently. Took things to charity shops and to the recycling centre. Still need to sort more things in the flat. Have downshifted to more basic items in Mr. A to keep the food bill down. Was surprised that the basic cheese had gone up by 18p. Went to Wilko's to get some more deodorant. The brand I usually get had doubled in price, so got the shop's own brand which was alot cheaper.
Hugs to those who need them.Frugal Living Challenge 2025 Mortgage free as of 1st August 20130 -
Must stop DH looking over my shoulder - he's got a sick grin on his face & keeps saying 'You're lucky to have me' Its second time around for us so looks like we both learnt from our mistakes (& kissed a LOT of frogs)
Hang in there Erme - it takes more guts & determination than many people realise to kick the habit - hope the coffee meeting goes well on Monday .......watch this space???
Tumpty - I'm sure mine felt he was in the 'Whoopsied section' when we first met but you never know what sort of bargain you are going to get........!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
tumptyteapot wrote: »wow! how did you get free delivery on such a low order?
I must have been a lucky girl as just been back on and I must have bought the cheapest books :rotfl:
The ones I ordered were available for free super saver delivery (just checked bill)
I need to be photographing some bits and bobs for the free listing. I have an old lawnmower and some beer bottles (given to me for wine making) but its raining so hard here I am not going out to take pics!!
I did not find much at the jumble yesterday but had a productive afternoon helping aunt make a Merlin costume for one of the boys!! he has the lead in a school play:rotfl: We raided through the Halloween box to get the spiders web stuff (bought in Mr T sale for 5p) which has made a wonderful beard and hair. Total spend on outfit under £3.
Had a couple of drinks friday night and blurted out to DH I had been paying some bills off behind his back!! The fact I squirrelled away £500 amazed him and has spurred him on to be more careful:T
Nearly fell off the non spendy wagon yesterday when DD turned up with DGD and a Mc Ds it smelt soooooooo good I nearly caved in but I jumped up and put some pasta on boil and by the time DH said "shall" it was nearly cooked:rotfl:..........close call phew, but for five of us it comes to nearly £20:eek:
Darling Mogs still has not had the babies:( A week til DH goes away:( it will all kick off next week I bet.0
