Erme - well done on the ciggies - stay with it, you can do it!! The Jogscotland sounds good - its cheap & sociable. What's not to like!!
Saw last night on the TV News that the supermarkets say were spending 3.5pct less on food inferring I thought that we were cutting down on quantity (not a bad thing maybe in some cases) I just wondered if more people are getting the frugal living message perhaps & swapping for cheaper products & doing more home cooking & baking & perhaps starting to grow their own.
I'm off to make DH some Quince Jam that he loves as he's down to his last jar. I've also still got a load of Rose Hips in the freezer waiting for me to do syrup but I'm saving those for a rainy day as I think they're quite fiddlySmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I know we have a couple of weeks to go till the end of the month, but I've been sorting out my half-year spending, and I'm so pleased with myself, as it appears I've spent an average of £20 a week less than last year! :j
I haven't included getting the flat roof fixed this year, and I didn't include replacing the broken washing machine last year, as most years there is something that needs replacing or repairing, but knowing how much food and power have increased this year, I'm really chuffed.
No doubt lots of you will have made more economies, and saved more, and some of you will have saved less, but I reckon that anybody who joined at the start of the year, as I did, will have noticed some savings. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Hello fellow frugallers:j
Excellent news Sandrascarlett and to all others- even if it's only a small amount you've saved or a new way of frugalling you've learnt it's most definitely a positive step in the right direction. :j
No spending here at Gnat Bottomed Towers. I was convinced we were due to go to friends for dinner tonight- just aswell I checked the diary as it's next Friday:oThey might have been a bit taken aback to find us on the doorstep:D Instead we easily cobbled together a supper from the well stocked frugal stores and instead OH will be starting his new jigsaw from the CS and the small person has settled down to watch the latest Harry Potter DVD we have been lent by his friend. Tomorrow I shall return some DVDs to my friend and she in return is borrowing another of ours. Free entertainment:j

Got by bank statement today and quite a bit more money in than out so pleased with that!
No spend for me today as I'm going nowhere!
I have been really busy today with house work since 8.30am - four loads of washing, tumbled and put away for once!
Then I sorted out all my paper work and got rid of a load of stuff!
The electrician came to make safe the electrics where the water is coming through the ceiling.
Why oh why do workmen want to use the bathroom when you've forgotten to remove your dirty garments!
Haven't done that room yet! Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

I remember when DS was little he left his policeman handcuffs in my bedroom as that was where prisoner teddy was. Would the NTL (now virgin media) bloke listen..........no he was too busy laughing while sorting the bedroom media box out (before the days of cutting back I had three boxes:eek:)
Not much happened today, spend £2 at the charity shop on a crochet hook, pattern and two small balls of wool. These are for when I stop smoking to give my hands something to do at night (won't tell you what DH said:rotfl:)
Just need to decide on a date
Got the tightwad gazette books (as mentioned on this thread) £1.39 of AM*ZON with free deliver:T bargain!!! so sat with a glass of wine with my feet up. I have waited days for these to arrive but thats what you get with free del, I would rather wait and save the money.
Jumble tomorrow, can't wait
Have a great weekend xxxx0 -

hi everyone,
good going erme!
wow sandra that's fantastic, if you can drop by that much there's always hope!
not spent anything today... didnt even have the planed takeaway! (ate a random assortment from fridge that before would probably have been thrown away!)
my day got turned upsdie down on the news a close friend had a camper van fire, whilst driving along, luckily she and her lovely dog got out ok but the van is a write off. very scary. it's upset about 9 peoples plans for getting on / getting thier stuff on site to glastonbury festival but we have all rallied around and with blitz spirit things seem to be righting themselves. quite a reminder to get the car serviced when it should be, (the camper had just been serviced) and to be thankful for what we do have as it is so easily lost.
we're trying to be as frugal at the festival as we can.. we'll be fed vegan twice a day and i've stocked up on, amongst other things. tinned mackrel in tomatoe sauce (+bakers on site = frugal healthy sandwiches that dont need spread), cupasoup and mugshots (home b's 28p not tes!os 62p!!), and better for the environment than pot noodle. these should see us through any chilly evenings without a stop at a chinese food stall or chippy! (out there in Old Stype somewhere is my almost full camping kit list if anyone's curious).
so i wont be around for just over a week... good luck with your goals everyone. bye bye!Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -
