have to say my experience of the 2 wedding shops in my local town has been mixed. There is one with a terrible reputation for being nasty from 1 particular person there (and lots of online reviews!) and when I went in she basically ignored me as I looked through the BM dresses to get an idea of shapes and shades of colour. Then a very young, VERY slim girl came in and she was all over her - telling her if she bought one of the 'offer' dresses (I guess ex samples) for £50 she would get a free veil, today was the last day of the offer, in fact it was ending any minute now, blah, blah, blah, really pushy even though the girl wanted to ring her mum and ask her to come later (the offer will have finished by this afternoon, you need to start trying them on now)...anyway, I turned around and she looked straight at me and made a comment that they would be perfect for her size. I walked out and nearly started to cry. I nervously went in the other shop to look at tiaras/head pieces for style and the lady was fine, on the way out I thanked her for letting me look and commented on the attitude in the other shop. She said 'ah yes....her....' I wouldn't have dared ask about dresses though!! I stuck to accessories to be on the safe side.
I am terrified of trying anything on to be honest. I keep putting it off. One of my sisters really wants to come with me and I could do it any Saturday she is free but I'm so naughty and keep saying to myself she is too busy....I will probably end up going on my own. Asked Pepe about distances and the Bletchley shop is nearer than the Rugby one so that will be the one I will be visiting.
Can I ask doublemummy......what are the dress prices like? Roughly what kind of prices are they? I really don't want to spend more than a couple of hundred or so at the very most.
anyway, I thought I had found 'the dress' in the one I linked to yesterday and imagined it in a bronze or dark red satin with a leaf green train (or a similar autumnal combination) and read the reviews.....worse than most Chinese selling sites I've seen.....lots of people never getting dresses and then being outside the paypal refund policy and if they do get the dress it is not wearable.
Ah well. this morning before work I tried on a long skirt I have and a fitted jacket that are similar styles to the ones I want from Moonmaiden Gothic for my registry and the shape was good so I'm going to go ahead and buy the skirt/bodice and then order the jacket from etsy. Just need to find the tape measure now!!!
Received the florist tape and wire yesterday to make the buttonholes. Have the other bits already (white satin tulips and peacock feathers) so might have a go tomorrow at making one. I'm not the best person in the world at crafts but the videojug instructions make it look very easy....we will see! :rotfl:"Stay Wonky":D

That is so sad.
I didn't realise people behaved like that! I mean even just looking from a clinical business point of view- your money is just as good! N you will not be recommending her to anyone- regardless of size!
The market has never been suited for either end if the scale though, you would think finding dresses for a thin person would be easy, but goig shopping with my mum proved other wise, nearly all the size 8 MoB outfits where to big! N the size 6 designs (which did fit) were HILARIOUS! I mean at one point both me and mum where :rotfl: because it was designed for a 16 year old! Not a 50 year old woman! Makin me chuckle now thinking about it....:T0 -
Got a 12pm appointment at the Bletchley dress shop tomorrow double mummy bought from earlier this week.....am soooooooo nervous already!!
I have seen a dress shop doing 1 dress per day at £100 (ex-samples).....there is one coming up in a 26 that I have ADORED for months - I was so shocked to see it on the list as most are 12 and 14 sizes.....the shop is nowhere near me but I've sent them an email to ask if they would sell it to me over the phone on the day they plan to have it as their £100 dress. It is about £900 I think normally and it would be a risk in case I didn't like it etc but I would be willing to take that chance for £100 as I have loved it for months now and know it would look perfect with a velvet riding jacket over it."Stay Wonky":D

Hello!
We have, literally just the other day, booked out ceremony for the 27th October. No venue booked yet but looking around. Very tight budget, £1000 for hire and food. Due to the tight budget I am having a dress dilemma!
I have found dresses I like but the one I love I have not seen in the flesh. It is online. I don't know anyone that has bought a wedding dress online. Anyone know of any horror stories, websites to avoid? Or success stories or websites I should be looking at.
I can't afford inshore prices as they are £100 - £300 more than buying online direct from the dressmakers!
Any help appreciated!
I am also going with the 'order the dress so it arrives a month before giving me time to lose weight in the mean time' approach so really need a company I can trust…
Congrats to all the other October Brides!x
Completely out of my student overdraft March 2012! :rotfl:
Still searching for my first teaching post

My mum just called and said she's found the perfect MoB outfit so she's buying it today and letting me see it properly over the weekend. Been looking at BM dresses online, I've found so many pretty ones!0 -

Good luck with the wedding dress hunting I hated wedding dress shopping the people in those shops are so rude. The last shop I went to was lovely and I found THE dress. Just wish it could be a nicer experience its meant to be exciting yet its not!!0 -
