I think it depends where the car was (sorry if i've missed this), if it was on his driveway then i'd agree the boy shouldn't have gone onto his property and underneath the car.
But if it was parked on the public road then that is a different story.
And I agree it wasn't a very safe thing to do but then kids are not always aware of these things.

As for cats, people need to realise they are classed as wild animals, I know not everyone is a cat fan though!

The car was parked outside my house, not neighbours (we don't drive and for some reason they've always parked outside our house) and is on a public road :)

LOL glad am not the only one who's neighbours think that owning a cat immediately makes you some kind of cat whisperer :p

I get that not everyone likes cats - unfortunately our street is full of them though lol am sure if I counted them up, they would outnumber the people!!

I wouldnt worry about your neighbours they probably just want to have a moan, we have people like that. The kids are always playing football in the road and if i park outside the house and not on the drive that is a risk I run.
One kid did drive into my car on his bike last year though and caused £200 damage.

By all means let kids out BUT don't let them become a nuisance - and crawling under someone else's car is being a nuisance. If you don't see that as a lack of respect then you are part of the problem which has caused the community breakdown.
The thing is that we all have different ideas of what is disrespectful though! People always have done and always will do. I think the neighbour is making a big deal out of nothing regarding the ball rolling the car, but you think he is rightly outraged. I don't think this is an issue whereby there is one obvious correct way to behave. I think it's ridiculous to bother one's neighbour over something so trivial, as do others, but you'd rush round to ask permission to get the ball.

I also take issue with your notion that my thinking on this matter makes me a nuisance who causes community breakdown! Overreact much?! I am extremely active in my community and I daresay I do more than most to promote community cohesion and volunteer my time to a number of different local causes.

Plan, that was aimed at me because I found the previous comment about your parents out of line.
I am now respectfully bowing out of this as quite clearly Tiddlywinks believes that everything they say is the law and no one else is allowed an opinion and I am too annoyed right now to be coherent. Jovichick hope everything works out for you, and am glad you updated how bizarre the situation is.

I mean, what am I supposed to do? Cats have been neutered, are not content to be housecats and DS is really attached to them

    Litter tray.

Why do so many cat owners seem to think their cat's faeces are not their responsibility? Parents put nappies on their babies, dog owners scoop the pooch's poop. Cat owners should train their cats to use a litter tray.

we had a particularly obnoxious neighbour many years ago, bear in mind this is a tiny terrace with 2 rows of 5 houses and the house opposite us had 10 cats and 3 other neighbours had 2 cats each.. we had 1 at the time.. but it was only ever our cat that used his garden as a toilet supposedly.. Anway.. after it all came to a head after he tried poisoning my 3 y/o son with ant killer.. my XH went round and asked him to remove said poison and the neighbour demanded we train our cat to poo elsewhere XH who was rather irate after we spent the day in hospital finding out why our son was very ill said if he could train a cat to poo somewhere he would train it to take the lid off his milk bottles and poop in the milk... juvenile but hilariously funny.

My cats poo in my planters.. I have 2 which I saved with nothing but soil so they can poo there... not that the neighbours will complain they are 90% students and rarely use the gardens. Is this something you could invest in?

As for the car, I think it is more likely the vibrations caused by driving would have loosened a bracket and caused the exhaust to become loose.. I am certain a small boy wouldn't cause that damage though his ball might have knocked it and loosened it a little quicker. Had he touched the car enough to cause damage I am sure he would have had oil and dirt on himself or his clothes and you would have noticed!

(we used to play hide and seek and would hide under cars!)

Again, cats are classed as wild animals.

My cat is litter trained but when she is outside, she goes outside, she's not like the last cat we had, who would come galloping home because she needed the box, lol.

And since I have observed my cat in my own garden having a tiny pee and then heaping 6 inches of dirt on top I am not worried about my own puss!

Dog owners? I'd say round here for every 3 that pick up the poop, one or two don't.

There is an easy solution to cat problems - a dog. Just let it out in the garden whenever you see a cat. Our old garden was cat free for years using this method!
Just make sure the dog is too old/slow/stupid to catch the cat, you don't want a dead cat on your hands, although I think most dogs would never be able to catch a cat, they are too fast and good at climbing. And you need to make sure you get one that likes chasing things.

I have 3 cats. In the interest of good neighbourliness, (i have lovely neighbours, thank god ) I always give them a can of spray to put on their garden to keep the cats off it. I also make a special place in my garden for them to go, and keep refreshing it by turning it over all the time. Doesn't always work as the little s***s have a contrary mind of their own,but at least the neighbours know that I try.
