Kaz wins the prize for doing the maths:p I hadn't thought of the ST's or tampons- they can be kind of expensive.

I've thought of another problem I'd have with this- I have grey roots :( I would NEED hairdye every month unless you are allowing for hairdresser visits! I also tend to not leave the house without make up and I don't see any mascara in the basics budget!

I can live without nail polish but lots of people here can't!

This is quite depressing really, I seem to need so much stuff.

My toiletry guess would be £35 pa?

I've painted my nails tonight in Nails Inc Sloane Street, dont think it will look as nice after the gardening this weekend, but looking very 'pink' at the minute :p

I had to give up with the Avon hydrating shampoo & conditioner, just couldn't get on with it, it wouldn't lather properly and it was getting to the point where I didn't want to wash my hair  both bottles are half empty, so do I throw, or can I donate them anywhere??

I also started on the Youth Code Serum last night, it has a 'different' feel to the Botanics one, I can't explain it!

I've had a nosey on the DTD thread, see what everyone is talking about, is it really that easy?: Find goods cheaper at Asda, then go and buy them from Tesco and then Tesco give you double the difference?? No??? If thats the case i'll spend a couple of hours on it tomorrow :rotfl::rotfl::D

Charlie - Hope everything is ok :grouphug:

Hope everyone else is well and having fun!

It really is that easy! Just remember not to buy the toiletries though:rotfl:
    Beware!!!! Glitching is addictive:rotfl:

mcculoch29 I have done some working out and I think it will be £17.82.
    Here's what's on my list.....
Sanitary towels 26 packs of 10 (13 cycles per year, 2 packs per cycle) @ £0.14
    Value roll on deodorant 50ml x2 @£0.60
Magnolia bath soap bars for hand washing 4pack @ £1.02
    Colgate toothpaste 4 tubes 100ml (special offer) @ £1.00
    4x medium Colgate toothbrushes (BOGOF) @ £1.00
    3x 400ml body lotion @ £1.30
    2x Basic shower gel 300ml @ £0.10
    1x Value conditioner 500ml @ £0.24
    1x Value shampoo 1000ml @ £0.22

I've gone with higher brand mouthcare because I found that for the last few months when I have been using my current (blue tube) toothpaste rather than a different whitening toothpaste, I have developed stains on my teeth and had to have a scale and polish at my last dental appt. If I continue with this toothpaste, I would end up needing to see the hygienist.
I have assumed toiletries are for one person only. There would be leftovers such as bar soap, and shampoo so you could save the shower gel money.

It would be a pretty miserable existence though would it not? I actually do use the cheap cheap st's because all others irritate me and I've heard many others saying they get problems from them. I have 2 packs I'm working through atm but I only bought them for the pretty tins. I will buy DD whatever she wants when she gets to that age. She'll probably use tampons though, I did until I had children then can't any more :( (TMI? :rotfl:)
We are also assuming that everyone can use the products we are being sold as cheapest of the cheap.
I can guarantee though, if the entire country switched overnight to buying these brands, the price would go up!
I await with baited breath your answer!
    :T:T:T:T
My quantities were different and I hadn't budgeted for san. pro or toothpaste /toothbrushes...
It took me quite a while to find prices, but I found it an interesting exercise.
Even when I was really broke I never got quite this frugal, I agree, it is a bit sobering, but I'm thinking here of Kath Kelly who lived for a year on a budget of a pound a day. Her toiletries shelf must have looked like the above by the end of the year, but her book is anything but depressing.

I'm wondering if, excluding facial moisturiser, I could manage with very basic basics... hmm.
    (pause for five minute ponder)

No, I think not, because using up products that are really pleasant to use is VERY good for me psychologically, I've mentioned this before - my body is not what it was, and never will be again, but PRCP and pampering is a way of accepting this. In giving nice things to myself, I acknowledge that I AM worthy of a little vanity...

I wonder if anyone else will post a guess? I won't put what I got it down to just yet.

It's not depressing to need stuff - remember PRCP, you are worthy of nice things!

The pound shop does very good hairdye, and Wilkinson's do one a few pennies cheaper. Probably the same formulation.

I used the foam party hair colour a few weeks ago that was a freebie and it was the lighest blonde one they had. The condition of my hair since I used it has been poopy, just wondered if anyone else had the same problem with it, definately won't be using it again.
See you all tomorrow evening, have made a rule with myself that I pop in once a day because the dtd board has taken over!!

I had the same experience and so did many, many others looking at the Clairol forum.
Medium brown and ash blonde colours also went brown-black on many people - including me!

I've been using intensive treatments, the HE one was courtesy of vouchers from Proctor and Gamble that I was sent when I rang the Careline. My hair is improving....

In the mood for pics after seeing everybody else's lovely ones :) So easiest (plus only stuff organised properly), most of my nail varnishes ;)

And finally a photo of the 17 crackle on nails inc duchess st. Not as convinced by this one I think. The effect is definitely less than the black Barry M one. It is thicker as I find it impossible not to overlap when doing two sides of a nail!

My guess on the toiletries spend is about £30.

UUs: Johnson's Cleansing Wipes WIBA? Have a packet or two of these particular ones left in stash, along with a few others. Not really fussy about wipes. As long as they clean my face and don't dry out I'm happy. Only use them when too tired to CTM, or run out of something (in this case, my eye makeup remover from G magazine, keep forgetting to bring it home from work :o)
No buying unnecessary toiletries/makeup in May: Unnecessary spend £17.60
    May
    INs: 14 UUs/OUTs/GAs: 11
    2012 INs: 77 UUs/OUTs/GAs: 91
    Savings from UUs: £60.50

  • Well I didn't use my BS voucher in the end as I couldn't get the flaming thing to print, I shall use it on Saturday before work and hope that they put the sale items to BOGOF, like they did in January:rotfl:

One UU: Superdrug Plum and something that I can not remember (possibly cherry?) exfoliating shower gel WBA, I loved the scent, don't know if it really exfoliated though but I think they were on some strange offer ages ago wyb 3, so 2 friends and I split it up. I want to try the conditioner and shampoo in the same range, went in the other day and they are on 2 for £1.80, so:money:

On the other hand, I had some finds, I wouldn't call them INs as I just failed to count them in the first place:
    Boots mini banana intensive conditioner
    Toni & Guy conditioner
Botanics bodyscrub, never opened and I really can't get the lid off

Forgot to mention, I've been invited to a make up party, v. excited but I am going to limit myself to £50 spend as it's YSL, Dior, MAC etc. at cheapo prices

Not so sure about the 17 crackle now...Pudsey, will you do a review when you've tried it too please? :D Did someone say about Models Own bringing out a few crackle colours too? Looking forward to that! :D

Course I will, probably on Saturday.

avon order came today so another in:o:

eternal magic perfume-was hoping this would smell like lancome hypnose which I love but is so expensive. Smells a bit like it and reminds me of vera wang princess (which I also love) so overall quite happy with it. Might try perfume parlour oils next.

I'm thinking of buying this as I really like the body spray, but wish it was stronger - so hopefully the EDT will do the job. It's cheaper in brochure 8 so I'll either wait for that or buy one off ebay.

Oh.......that looks a bit disappointing :( Just been looking at a few examples on google and it seems it often looks clumpy. This one below looks ok though.

Might have to give in and order the new BarryM crackle colours...........:o

Wide awake now.... the heating guys are due in the morning and I am sleeping in the riser - recliner.
Here's my 'least you could spend' calculations:

    All amounts for 1 person.

Hair – washed 4 x weekly 208 washes per year.

Tesco Shampoo 1 litre @ 22p At 8 ml per wash (standard sachet size) 125 washes per bottle – 2 bottles for a year = 44p.

Conditioner: Tesco Value Conditioner 500 ml @ 24p At 8ml per wash 62.5 washes a bottle 4 bottles per year at 96p.

Deodorants – Tesco Value 50 ml at 30p 1 ml per day 8 per year (generous estimate) 2.40

    Shower Gel Tesco Value 10p 300ml 10ml per shower using body puff x 7 showers weekly = 12 bottles / year 1.20

Handwash Tesco Value Cream Handwash. 38 p for 500 ml 15 ml per day 11 bottles per year 4.20 OR Asda Smart Price Soap 3 bars for 25p 1 125g bar per month £1.00

All round body moisturiser. Tesco Value Baby Lotion 11p for 500 ml 20 ml /day = 15 bottles, £1.65

Hair washed and conditioned, body washed and moisturised , plus deodorised and hands cleansed for a total of £7.65 if using soap instead of hand wash or £10.20 if using hand wash rather than soap.
Using baby bath instead of adult shower gel – Tesco Value Baby Bath 500ml for 11p 10 ml per bath or poured on to body puff to use as shower gel. 8 bottles for the year = 88p
So £7.33 using baby bath to wash with alongside soap as handwash. Or £ 9.87.
Could you go lower? Using soap in the shower and upping usage to 2 bars a month would knock another 20 p off per year - £7.13

If you got your facial moisturiser from the pound shop, ditto hair dye, you could still come in under £20.
    Value toothpaste is 17p a tube x 6 Cheapest sanitary protection 28p a month...

Interesting, but I'm glad I don't have to do it.

Would love to know what other QVC products you like -I like the Arnica and propolis gel and have liked the Mind,Body and Spirit perfume before from Tova. What do you think to their "resident beauty expert" and some of the beauty guests? I am slowly moving away from some of their salon brands now and returning to the high street - bought a BS VItamin E eye cream and it is as good as a Liz Earle or Gatineau any day. (but a lot cheaper!)

Hi bev and scrappie. Another QVC viewer here although I'm a reformed character these days and tend to really weigh up the TSV prices before i buy. They used to be more value I thought. I do still get excited about TSVs from Elemis, Philosophy (love the shower gels not the skincare), OPI and Leighton Denny. Usually I get MrM to buy the Elemis and Philosophy Christmas ones for me which keeps the stash going all year long. Must admit I haven't bought the last couple of OPI TSVs though.

One UU for me today - Aussie Shampoo. Used to be my HG but I've moved onto Ojon bought the TSV in Jan/Feb and also bought some from JL when it was on offer.
Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!
