Run the top of the bottle/lid under the hot tap for two or three minutes - it should then open easily. Clean round the top of the bottle before putting the lid back on though.

thanks for that got it open, its a lovely colour so i wouldnt of been happy if it was stuck forever.

lol fiasco55 no i lent her my nail polishes as she told me she only had 3!!

i have some ins to report
    barry m pure turquoise
    collection 2000 sparkle top coat
    rimmel lycra pro matte finish

    Hey guys,

from my spot on the naughty step the guilt is setting in! Am realising that free toiletries or no, I can't keep getting more - it's partly to save money, but largely at the moment to get the stash down as it takes up too much room (and if it expands further my boyfriend may refuse to move in with me!!) :D

I definitely need more restraint around the deals I see on here - hilariously it's stuff I wouldn't know about if I wasn't on this board! So next time you post a deal, remind me that I especially don't need it!!! :rotfl:

So, I think my plan of attack it to make it more 'real' in my head almost - and the only way I can think of is to budget for toiletries which might make me think more about what I actually do spend. Now, obviously, for the moment budget should be zero as I really, really don't need anything, AT ALL, for at least a few months.

But realistically, what do you guys tend to spend per month/year on toiletries? And then the more sensible question - if you were trying to be sensible and only really buy what you need, with perhaps a very infrequent treat, what do you think is a reasonable amount to set?

I think if I added up what I spend a year I'll die of shock... so something has to change!

Also - what strategies do you find successful in resisting temptation? I think I need any help that's going!!!

My new 'definitely no buying toiletries in April' is starting today!!
    xx

I must admit that prior to lurking on this thread months before I joined I had never given much thought to my toiletries spending habits. When I look back on it now I easily would have spent over £1500 a year and even more if I was off to the states where I would stock up on my cosmetics.:eek::eek::eek:

I would bulk buy my favoured products even when not on offer and I would buy new products in the hope of finding my HG item. I never wanted to downshift my products as I wrongly believed that the label is king!!

Being on this challenge I have learned a lot - about my spending habits, product performance vs. branding and how enjoyable and satisfying it is to use up and love my stash.

I still have the odd (shamelessly enjoyable) splurge, try and get the best value for HG or lustible items and look out for recommended products (by you lovely ladies).

In January I started totting up my monthly spends for the first time. I now do this every month. Your post Flirtini got me thinking about actually projecting my spending for the year and after some thought I would like to plump for a spend this year of £210 which is £15 per month plus a slush fund of £30 for any *ahem* emergencies.

I have a wee brain teaser to set you.

I wondered in an earlier posting what was the lowest possible cost for a year's essential toiletries. So I had a look. (I plan on using the data for a maths exercise.)

This was using the most basic products that are widely available in supermarkets.

Washing and conditioning your hair 4 times a week, using a roll on deodorant daily, and having a daily shower plus using an all-over moisturiser following the shower, what do you reckon the figure is?

I don't recommend using sites to find out - it took me AGES!

    Just have a guess!

Hhhhhmmmm gotta be something ridiculously low (that I would never be able to stick too). I think £14.50!!

I also worked it out using handwash or soap for hand hygiene, forgot to add that, d'oh.

Not saying anything about the guesses so far... but thank you very much for joining in!

I've just made a discovery that will bring the cost down even lower, off to recalculate...

I have nipped in here before I go to the dtd board. So far I have not given in to the dtd toiletries and it's getting harder! but the other deals are fab. I have just had a lovely bath in grapefruit BS and used grapefruit BB which ran out halfway through putting it on, so smell half of S&G and half of grapefruit! Used the sanctuary heating up mask and have painted my nails.
UU today mavala nail varnish in a red colour, WIBA probably yes does give good coverage.
UU Mark Hill straightening shampoo WIBA not sure, It seemed to work really well when I first used it but it almost seemed that my hair got used to it and it didnt seem as nice.
UU BS Grapefruit BB WIBA Oh Yes I love it.
I used the foam party hair colour a few weeks ago that was a freebie and it was the lighest blonde one they had. The condition of my hair since I used it has been poopy, just wondered if anyone else had the same problem with it, definately won't be using it again.
See you all tomorrow evening, have made a rule with myself that I pop in once a day because the dtd board has taken over!!
    Beware!!!! Glitching is addictive:rotfl:

mcculoch29 I have done some working out and I think it will be £17.82.
    Here's what's on my list.....
Sanitary towels 26 packs of 10 (13 cycles per year, 2 packs per cycle) @ £0.14
    Value roll on deodorant 50ml x2 @£0.60
Magnolia bath soap bars for hand washing 4pack @ £1.02
    Colgate toothpaste 4 tubes 100ml (special offer) @ £1.00
    4x medium Colgate toothbrushes (BOGOF) @ £1.00
    3x 400ml body lotion @ £1.30
    2x Basic shower gel 300ml @ £0.10
    1x Value conditioner 500ml @ £0.24
    1x Value shampoo 1000ml @ £0.22

I've gone with higher brand mouthcare because I found that for the last few months when I have been using my current (blue tube) toothpaste rather than a different whitening toothpaste, I have developed stains on my teeth and had to have a scale and polish at my last dental appt. If I continue with this toothpaste, I would end up needing to see the hygienist.
I have assumed toiletries are for one person only. There would be leftovers such as bar soap, and shampoo so you could save the shower gel money.

It would be a pretty miserable existence though would it not? I actually do use the cheap cheap st's because all others irritate me and I've heard many others saying they get problems from them. I have 2 packs I'm working through atm but I only bought them for the pretty tins. I will buy DD whatever she wants when she gets to that age. She'll probably use tampons though, I did until I had children then can't any more :( (TMI? :rotfl:)
We are also assuming that everyone can use the products we are being sold as cheapest of the cheap.
I can guarantee though, if the entire country switched overnight to buying these brands, the price would go up!
I await with baited breath your answer!

My toiletry guess would be £35 pa?

I've painted my nails tonight in Nails Inc Sloane Street, dont think it will look as nice after the gardening this weekend, but looking very 'pink' at the minute :p

I had to give up with the Avon hydrating shampoo & conditioner, just couldn't get on with it, it wouldn't lather properly and it was getting to the point where I didn't want to wash my hair  both bottles are half empty, so do I throw, or can I donate them anywhere??

I also started on the Youth Code Serum last night, it has a 'different' feel to the Botanics one, I can't explain it!

I've had a nosey on the DTD thread, see what everyone is talking about, is it really that easy?: Find goods cheaper at Asda, then go and buy them from Tesco and then Tesco give you double the difference?? No??? If thats the case i'll spend a couple of hours on it tomorrow :rotfl::rotfl::D

Charlie - Hope everything is ok :grouphug:

Hope everyone else is well and having fun!

Yes it is :j but take your time, read the thread and compare prices. It was easier a couple of weeks ago but Tesco are clamping down and doing B1G2F offers to entice you to buy other things to bring the price of your shopping down. Don't always d!!!G1F, just buy 1! I know thos doesn't make sense but it does on DTD.:rotfl:

No UU but one CFUWI (completely fed up with it :D). A Molton Brown body lotion, it was too liquid for me so I have demoted it to the bathroom for hand lotion and moved my S&G to my handbag for mobile moisturising. That means I have cracked open a Clarins body moisturiser which is luscious.
