As I've not seen an app thread on here, and I'm currently in "play" mode with my phone I thought I'd start one.
no particular order
1. SWYPE I hated text messaging on my old phone, pressing the number keys to get letters was rubbish. Then I got a smartphone with a keyboard on the screen, and it was a little better..then I found swype. Seems very strange dragging your finger over the letters, only letting go at the end of words, but it's fast and surprisingly accurate - i can now cope with text
2. Barcode reader, great for those qr codes (box with dots in), or just scan any product barcode, and browse for details
3. gvsig minimaps I know googlemaps (and navigation) are included on the phone - but this uses the OS maps, so shows byways etc..., perfect for those of us who want to do a bit of walking to get into shape.
4. adw launcher ..it's launcher, but better (and skinnable)
5. skyfire - just started with this, so might really be rubbish, but it should allow flash video functionality to older phones.
plenty more out there..let's have'em

Thanks for the pointer to Swype. I already had an alternate keyboard entry program (Swiftkey) but this looks like it could be better.0 -

Can anyone name the barcode scanner they have? I looked at a couple, but they all said they were for use in the US.0

pretty sure this is the scanner i use. I've even been known to use my PC to generate a qr code for a webpage and then scan it to my phone - saves typingUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Useful thread but may I suggest that people list what their apps actually do to make it easier. I wold also be grateful if someone could point me towards the best apps for transport around London and the UK. I found plenty for the Tube but very little useful for buses or trains. Also some pointers to offline navigation would be fantastic. Thanks to all.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

In case you didn't know you can search the Android Market on your PC. If you sign in with the same id you use on the phone you can even schedule download/installs from the PC too all of which I find easier than from the phone.
