I used to be intolerant to milk...doesn't mean its bad for everyone...shrug.gif

And yes if i wanted to I could probably trawl the internet to find studies which show cows milk to be harmful in x, y, z etc

If it doesn't make sense to you that the artifical chemicals added to food are probably health damaging, especially when combined with all the other toxins we inhale, digest and absorb, I don't have the energy or inclination to try and convince you otherwise.

Sounds like, unlike asbokid here, you're simply ignorant of the issues surrounding the use of additives.
There you go EdgEy - Asbokid had the time and inclination to give you some facts. :T Beautifully put Asbokid. :)

I am well aware of these studies. As he has stated, the substances may, or may not be harmful. To use those studies to then state categorically that all additives are 'toxins' is simply irrational.

Shell, I wasn't looking down my nose at you - that is why I winked at the end of my comment - you have just taken it that way.

No I wasn't always food aware. That is how I discovered my son and many others of his migraine group were made ill by artificial sweetners - he used to drink diet drinks.
I too used to eat and drink junk. Now, being three stone lighter, having a clear skin and more energy at 39 than I had at 19 makes me realise how ill informed I once was.

That's what I mean though. Once upon a time, you ate a poor diet.

Now you don't, so I can't see why you can't offer advice or make suggestions without being so patronising, as that's how it is coming across.

If I eat crap, I feel like crap.

If I eat good, I feel good.

I know that and have always known that, but it's not stopped me being overweight for most of my life.

As you have gone through all my previous posts (and I am very flattered you did - thank you) you will notice I am supportive and non-judgmental of people. I am however against artifical additives (aka DANGEROUS TOXINS < just for you EdgEy old dear) in food...especially for my children. Everybody else is totally free to voice their opinion and eat/drink whatever they like as far as I am concerned.
If I seem patronising, it isn't intentional (okay it is a bit intentional when replying to EdgEy) so I put that down to your interpretation of my posts - and that I won't be apologising for.

    Hilarious.
I hope you don't eat bananas. Radioactive potassium in there. Toxic in high quantities. Must mean all fruit is dangerous.

I can't be bothered with the argument itself.. Each to his own.

As a money-saving consumer, I strive to get a better quality soft drink for the same price or less by "downgrading" from a branded product to an own brand.

For example, Aldi currently has its own brand Cola made with sugar and no artificial sweeteners for just 39p for two litres.

The German discount store is also selling its own Orangeade, again with no A/S, for 47p for two litres. The orangeade is particularly nice and is made from 8% orange juice!

Over at Tesco, the store's common or garden range of mixers (Bitter Lemon, Tonic Water, Ginger Ale and Ginger Beer) are available in both sugared and artificially-sweetened form. Currently the drinks are on special offer: buy three of the one litre bottles for £1. Bargain!

It's noteworthy that the "Finest" or "Specially Selected" top-end range of supermarket own brand soft drinks are usually made using sugar and not artificial sweeteners. Sugar appears to be the preferred sweetener for the refined palate!

At some point in the future we will reach a time when soft drinks made with sugar are selling at a price premium to their artificially-sweetened counterparts.

That is the point that the consumer will wake up and realise that artificial sweeteners were introduced not to slim us down, but to save the manufacturers money!

Indeed. To be honest, I find it strange that people have such a fear of sugary drinks anyway. There is something to be said for the addition of sugar to food, but I digress.

Nothing wrong with having a glass of coke every now and then. The normal version is basically sugar, water, caffeine and a few colourings.

Paradoxically, drinking an artificially-sweetened foodstuff might make you crave more food!

Artificial sweeteners cost much less than sugar to produce. That is the sole commercial motivation for their use in soft drinks. Their supposed dietetic advantage is little more than marketing.

Yes, these are very good points. It looking more and more likely they don't help control calorie intake, which really does reinforce the fact it's all about the cost.
