Just an an email from his Tutor - she'd taken 4 cans off him because he was selling them in school. (buying them for 35p each/4 for £1) selling them for 50p each.

I've asked her to point out in the rules where it says he can't........

but apart from that I'm speechless.

BTW - it was Pepsi Max, not full fat Pepsi ;)
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

    Lol! Quite the entrepreneur.

I used to run a mini greasy spoon from our kitchen at that age. Older brother was a bit of a party animal and so in the morning I would write out a menu and go and take orders from him and his friends and then cook it and serve it to them in bed. I used to make good money!
  • Is he actually in trouble, or has she just taken the cans off him?

If it's the latter, I personally feel it's fair enough. While I can see your son is showing an enterprising spirit by operating this 'business' I do feel that the school can't allow all pupils who want to sell things on site do so, as it could cause issues.

If I were you I'd still try to encourage your son, but outside of school.

Are you speechless at him or her? :rotfl:
Herman - MP for all! :)
  • Sounds like he's spotted a gap in the market and used his entrepreneurial skills to make a bit of money.
He failed by getting caught! :)

    Living and loving it :)

They are probably not allowed to sell it at school because it doesn't fit with their 'healthy eating' ethos.. and rightly so.. disgusting stuff.

Would you be so proud had it been drugs/cigarettes he was selling? As far as my children are concerned it may as well be drugs it sends them completely off the wall for about 3 days.

I think you might find it is against the school rules to sell stuff and make a profit which does not benefit the school... and it isn't very nice to exploit class mates either.. even though they are daft enough to pay for it. Do you not also need a license to sell food/drink still? That wold be another issue.

At my sons school there was a boy expelled for similar.

they were probably taken off him because he's undercutting the cafeteria/vending machine. Towards the end of my high school (a loooong time ago now) they were just installing coke machines into the school hall.

Good on him but can see it probably could cause a wider problem if all the kids did it.

Reminds me of myself as a child when I was given a small plastic sweet dispenser for Christmas, it would dispense about 3-4 sweets for 2p.

When it ran out I refilled it with Skittles and took it to primary school where I did the rounds of the playground collecting 2ps. However it all came to a head when some less scrupulous classmate found that the school's plastic 2ps worked just as well as real coins and hijacked my dispenser when I left it in my desk for lunch. I'm not entirely sure it was that profitable :D

Schools have removed vending machines selling unhealthy food, and at many schools Pepsi isn't allowed in lunch boxes, so it would be against schol rules to do this. Has it been confiscated because of the trading or because it is Pepsi? Would it have been the same for a bag of oranges?

Well it does show an enterprising nature, but I can see why the school wouldn't like it. I'm unsure of the legalities of selling stuff like this - maybe you need some sort of trader licence etc, although I suspect the quantities will be too small to attract much notice. You also have to ask where it goes from here - e.g. is the next step selling cigarettes, or worse? If they're going to do it then I'd insist that it happens off the school premises.
