I agree - the best way to eat is a varied and balanced diet. However pure orange juice, homemade lemonade or a glass of water do not give my son migraine but products with aspartame do. So you keep guzzling your cancer inducing artifical chemicals and I will keep to the good natural stuff. :)

Just to put the cat amongst the pigeons there are authorities that consider that fruit juice is linked to fatty liver and diabetes!I haven't even mentioned acid erosion which another poster hints at.

Yes Shellsuit I do on occasion. I only like beer and then I stick to German beers that have 'Reinheitsgebot' on the bottle or can. Reinheitsgebot is the German beer purity law that dictates beers should only be made of water, barley and hops. Artifical chemicals and other junk is not meant to be added to these beers. I also find hangovers are a lot less pungent too.

I only drink water and a few glasses of rose on a Friday evening, so I haven't a clue why you're on your high horse with me.

Ah well, ignorance is indeed bliss.

No, you're simply being extremist in your view that aspartame is some sort of killer chemical.

I don't drink artificially sweetened drinks myself as I see them as pointless - sugar is not bad for you in reasonable quantities. There are also issues to be raised about the interactions these sweetners have with our body.

But to go a step further and deem them 'cancer inducing chemicals' is just silly. There is no evidence that aspartame causes cancer in humans. The term 'chemical' itself is often used as a scary word which simply means a compound substance. Water is a chemical.

Using your son's 'migraines' to claim aspartame is destructive to everyone is on par with claiming peanuts are 'killer' as some people have allergies. Blowing things out of proportion doesn't help anyone.

It doesn't put the cat amongst the pigeons with me as I don't absorb every food and drink report and live my life accordingly. I shall continue to drink juice and not lose any sleep about acid erosion. However I have seen first hand what aspartame can do.
I have seen first hand what artifical additives that are added to food can do to children with ADHD and hyperactivity (having worked with these children).
And I have read enough about the food industry to know profit is their first and last interest - therefore I shall bring my children up to eat as naturally and as organically as possible.

Don't eat the first or the latter but have been known to open the odd can of soup as long as it isn't all colourings, flavourings and preservatives.

My budget favs include: baked potatos with beans/cheese, beans/scrambled egg/spagetti/tomatos/sardines/ on toast, pasta with mushroom sauce (pasta with 1/2 tin of mushroom soup)or tomato and ham, hot dogs (when on offer) and home made pizza.

Your quote 'cancer inducing artifical chemicals' is a classic NoTW headline, using the tiniest bit of evidence to make a sweeping claim.

Making a claim like that goes past an opinion, it's potentially libellous. I think it's important to let people know you essentially made it up based on your limited experience with your son and a few other children with learning difficulties. Hardly representative.
