Dont buy a Vauxhall if you want decent after service

Hi everyone.
If you are considering buying a vauxhall dont please read below my complaint and bear in mind thius was a problem that was investigated by watchdog and therefore Vauxhall knew about it after the letter is a note on what has happened.

I will update as new information arrives-

The question is should you pay for a Fuel pump £500.00 and a regulator £100 if Vauxhall know they went wrong? total bill so far around about £1000.00 The car is a 56 full service history Vectra 60k miles.

I will not give up - the reason that I am posting here is there customer service is shoddy to say the least.

Dear Sir/Madam,
Ref Vauxhall Vectra 2.2 ref 325533136

I write with utter disgust regarding the Vauxhall produced by you that I had the misfortune of purchasing.
My above mentioned car began causing me problems some four months ago now and has been a catalogue of hassles ! Firstly the engine management light (spanner light on dashboard ) kept coming on resulting in the car dropping into limp mode. This was not only annoying but at times became very dangerous when on a busy road. I took the car to my local garage who completed two diagnostic tests on it (£60.00)and advised me that it potentially needed a new coil pack. Coil pack was duly fitted costing £120.00 . However the problem continued…
The limp mode was still occurring and so I returned the car to the garage where they thought that the head gasket may have gone ,yet this car has only done 60000 miles, a little strange…
I then decided to take the car to a very experienced, recommended vehicle diagnostics engineer. This lasted from mid November to 12th January 2011. During this time the regulator and spark plugs had been replaced separately ,I was having to use public transport for work which caused even more grief! After all of this and paying a bill of £201.62 the car was still misfiring. The diagnostics engineer suggested

that I take the car to Vauxhall.
I then went onto the internet and was infuriated to find a bbc watchdog report on my car suffering from a limp mode . How much time and money was wasted ? Dare I tell you? I phoned my main dealer and explained the work that had been completed. They advised me that a recall was out on these vehicles. Why had I not been sent a recall letter ? They also advised me that the regulator had correctly already been changed by my engineer and that I should take this up with head office.
Within a few days to my horror the car began going into limp mode yet again… I was in total despair, what a vehicle! I returned the car to seward Vauxhall in branksome, poole where they fitted a fuel pump which was on the recall for limp mode too!
Is there anything else I should know?
I cannot begin to describe the utter disappointment I have with Vauxhall. You have wasted my time and hundreds of pounds purely through incompetence and negligence. I have already contacted my local trading standards team whom have advised I lay out my claim to you, and depending upon a satisfactory response will consider action via a civil court claim if necessary.I expect full reimbursement for the costs of the diagnostic tests, the regulator and fitting and the fuel pump and fitting as a bare minimum!
Please respond within 14 working days.
Yours faithfully

All manufacturers are pretty bad at trying to wriggle with out of warranty repairs like this tbh.
  • update -

1.Call from vauxhall - please call us.
2.Call back can never get through to same person.
3.9/3 letter please call us aparently they want proof that the garage fitted the right regulator although Vauxhall main dealer at Poole checked this and said it was the correct one.
4 Spoke to vauxhall explained this again oh ok dont need it.
    5. call from vauxhall 29/03 need proof again - sorry I was told you dont.
6 sorry dont know why you were told that.
7.spoke on 30/03 again to customer services checked and oh yes we have spoken to the garage that fitted the regulator they will send through.
    8. called my garage - sent by email yesterday.
    9. Oh hasnt come to us regarding your request.

SORRY I HAVE NOT MADE A REQUEST I HAVE MADE A COMPLAINT.

    10. Speaking to MR Chris Ayres at Vauxhall service he is an account manager - he was rude, he refused to put me through to his manager as this was not necessary. He was obstinate and even had the guile to say this was probably not even a complaint. I would love to download the recorded call that I had with him.

    11. Can you please send me your complaints procedure because I have been nice but you are not.
12 yes we can send that out .
13 When - I will pass the request on sometime this week.

    I await with bated breath.

Get the idea an offer of £100 for a regulator is on the way well -

Did you know it is not illegal to stand outside a maindealer with a board telling everyone what your experience is.

    Exactly.....

Oh and the reason the fuel pump costs so much is because it's programmed/tied to the ECU, meaning only Vauxhall can supply them. They've been know to fail as early as 70'000 miles.

The 2.2 Diesel was discontinued because of ongoing issues, as was the 2.0....
It's the reason I didn't buy one, I did my research.

It's also been said that using impure Diesel substitutes can cause problems.... Has the car ever been run on home grown alternatives?

yes but should we accept that -

The law says a par,t a service should last for a reaosnable amount of time. they hide behind the fact that we cant say what that time frame should be.

On the flip side, if you'd gone to Vauxhall first instead of two, maybe three? other places you'd have found out about the recall much faster and may have been in a stronger position to fight your case. It is made more difficult when the people who have worked on the car (i'm guessing) are not Vauxhall trained/approved.

That isn't to say they shouldn't replace a recall part for free but you can't blame them for the coil packs etc which you were advised to buy.

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Bit of a glib statement - my daughter had problems with her Ford Ka, made worse by a useless Ford garage. She then went to another dealer and complained direct to Ford, received top class service and the loan of a new Fiesta while they had the car in. The also carried out another job which the first dealer said wasn't covered by the 3 yr warranty which, TBH, I don't think was !

    In the OP's case:
Is the car under Warranty ?
    If so, from who ?
Strictly speaking the complaint should be with the person/dealer who sold the car to them, not the manufacturer.

And I thank you for your comments.

1.Garages do you go to a miandealer or someone you trust.
    2. Why should you be forced to pay main dealer charges.
    3. Is this a free country or a nanny state.
    4. Diagnostic test vauxhall - £60.
    5. Diagnostic test Trusted garage ( the guy is called in by main dealers when they cant sort out the problem) - £30.

I had a Ford before they were always fantastic.

    My issue to confirm

Watchdog investigated vauxhall as they knew about the fuel pump and regulator problem
