You also don't have any Office software installed, so that will prevent you from reading some of your documents.
I suspect that you don't have a problem 'downloading' anything. Your problem is opening the attachments that need these programs.
How do I get office software installed? Do I have to buy a new office software? although it was once there?0 -
One option
http://www.libreoffice.org/download
Which Office software did you have?
Do you or anyone who uses the PC qualify for educational versions?
For the PDF Reader

How are you getting on with PDF Files? If you right click one then click properties, does it show you what programme is supposed to open it? If it says windows common shell, click change, then browse for Foxit Reader if it is not in the first box, click apply.0

Try DoPDF, if you use Libre Office to create a Word compatible document, then click to print it and choose DoPDF as the printer, it will convert it to a PDF which you can send by e-mail, if you need to.
When you install DoPDF, check it does not set itself as the default printer

Optionals are iPrint and PretonSaver Home:
iPrint mostly deletes the pages with only one line when you print from the web, and lets you print two or more pages of a document on one sheet
http://www.clicktoconvert.com/iprint/
PretonSaver Home lets you reduce the amount of ink used whilst retaining quality, it is adjustable to suit for documents and can be switched off to print photos

If you create a PDF with DoPDF then Foxit Reader should open it, if not, use Revo Free to uninstall Foxit Reader then download and install a fresh copy, click to download the latest version on the right

Revo Free, scroll down for the free version 1.93

Glad things are progressing
