i will do as instructed...
It shows us that you don't have a PDF Reader installed... the lack of which is preventing you from reading your PDF files.
You also don't have any Office software installed, so that will prevent you from reading some of your documents.
I suspect that you don't have a problem 'downloading' anything. Your problem is opening the attachments that need these programs.0 -

You can use RussJK's link in post #8 as a PDF Reader if you'd like.0 -
You HAVE to install ASK? You cant just deselect it?
Forces the Foxit Toolbar which is really the Ask Toolbar:
Full screenshot here
Bad Foxit! Bad!
Edit: It would look like they've backed off a bit on this due to outcry, and the newest 501.0523 version looks like this when you uncheck the toolbar:

Yes in Version 4, they called it the Foxit browser plugin, making you think it would be what you let you view PDFs in the browser.
Are you using 64bit Windows? That'll explain the issues with running programs with elevated rights in Sandboxie (Sandbox Settings > Restrictions > Drop Rights and clear the checkbox - but not recommended for general use)
No, I'm not running 64 bit. It's just not working with that particular program. Perhaps it will on reboot.
Version 4 was like this:
It still had the Toolbar. Now it is a 'creator' Toolbar.
I just unticked both options and then chose 'Decline' in order to proceed to the main installation without the Toolbar.
But it is easy to think that they just had to untick the two options and then click 'I Accept' to proceed with the installation of the main software as usually you 'click 'I Accept' to agree to the terms of the licence.
Other than the initial installation annoyance, I prefer to use the program in preference to the intrusive ADOBE Reader.0 -
A good reason to move to PDF-XChange Viewer. It also has more functionality.Move along, nothing to see.0

grrrr now the attachments are being opened with paint. how do i rectify this? pictures are extremely large etc0

Right Click on the files, choose 'Open with' and then the program with which you wish to open the files.
Remove the tick, from 'always open with...' until you are sure it is the program that you want to be associated.0
