  • I agree with what's been said re divorced parents. I'm sure that on the the day they will all be on their best behaviour. My OH's parents are divorced (for over 25 years) and I know it is a source of stress for him. We have disagreed about the top table arrangements because he doesn't want any parents on the top table and I do. In the end I conceded that it wouldn't be worth the stress so we're just having bridesmaids and best man sitting with us. It did help that my parents have been lovely about it too. I really didn't want to exclude them just because two other people (who haven't shown a great deal of interest in the wedding) don't get along, but they've been very supportive.
  • I seem to be in a planning funk at the minute, lost all motivation for it. Booked the important things, venue, minister etc but its too early to get anything else. Cant get the dresses because Im trying to lose weight, I dont know how big my flowergirls will be and my maid of honour is currently trying to get pregnant! Im going to give myself a complete break till the new year, sure knowing I will only have a year to go will give me a kick up the bum then!!
I'm the same re planning at the moment! It doesn't help that as my OH is currently at uni full-time in another city, we can't move in together until the end of the academic year - I'm sure we'll find it easier to get stuff moving once we've got more time together to plan and sort things out.

The only things we've sorted so far are (a) venue booked, (b) guestlist more-or-less finalised, and (c) save the date cards (making our own - OH's friend is printing them up for us). I haven't been dress-shopping yet as I think it's too early and I'd only end up confusing myself! I'm planning on having a look in the new year, for the same reason as you (kick up the bum) and will be trying Oxfam and St Ann's Hospice wedding departments first - looks as if they have some lovely dresses and for very good prices :)

  • What's a marriage peparation course?![/QUOTE]

Its something we have to do because we want to be married in a catholic church, basicaly i think the jist of it is to go through everything to do with marriage, about making sure you spend time together, talk about any issues that kind of thing. We met with the preist and he spoke to us about it and to be honest i was dreading it but now ive spoken to him it doesnt seem that bad.
  • Well Ive got my motivation back all thanks to getting a deal with our photographer. I had already met one and he was nice etc but something niggled, I dont know what so we never booked and paid a deposit. Ive been hunting high and low for someone that could do it on out budget and was starting to think I would either have to sell a kidney to get the photos we want or compromise on quality to match our budget. I found a stunning photographer, loved their work but at £1250 we couldnt afford it. I loved her work so much rather than move on disappointed I decided to be cheeky and email her. I explained our budget situation, what exactly I wanted and that I had gotten a quote from another photographer that could do it at our price but I much preferred her work! Well she e-mailed me back and said she appreciated my honesty and if you dont ask you dont get, so she'll give us the £1250 package for £900 which is perfect! Im so so excited!! The photography has probably been the most important aspect of the day for me and Im genuinely excited by this photographer and her style!
Ive also created a local facebook group to chat to other brides and get personal reccomendations and actually enjoying speaking about it. Some lovely women have joined, so now as well as MSE I have somewhere on FB I can speak about weddings instead of overloading h2b!!
Ideas, help and advice always welcome, judgements and assumptions are not!!

  • Hello All!

I'm a new 2013 recruit - potentially August we hope - been engaged nrly 1 month!

    So far we have:

    1. Visited our first choice venue, think it's the one. Just got one more to go visit on Thursday, then we'll decide totally.
    2. We have a church chosen and just need to see the vicar and sort out a date.
    3. I've ordered 2 potential save the date cards from Vistaprint.
    4. Today, we went shopping and had a look at wedding bands. I've put a refundable £25 deposit down on my most favourite one from Goldsmiths, this means I have 3 months to decide/save, and they've frozen the current price. My OH is going for Titanium, yet to decide on his exact one.

My main question for you all is, how early can you start? for example, is it foolish to be looking/potentially buying wedding bands this early on?

    Your thoughts are welcome!

    Thanks,
    Alipops x
  • I went to my first wedding fayre last weekend with my mum. It was at a local hotel which was quite nice but not as nice as our venue which made me feel quite smug lol. It was also more expensive too (£12.95 pp for bacon butties in the evening!). They had a 'fashion show' of dresses from a local store but it didn't really inspire to go and have a look there. Because the models were changing outfits frequently, the lace up backs looked a mess. There were also safety pins and labels hanging off, which I don't really think there is any excuse for. The models did not look confident/comfortable in the dress and kept pulling them up in an undignified way so they wouldn't trip lol.I've got a vague idea of the sort of dress I'm after so just trying to restrain myself as I think it's a bit too early to go shopping!

Me either, sounds so much better than "just under 2 years" or "20 months" :D
