Accidental landlady, or "How I made £200k"

until you got to the bit about how everyone who is struggling must be smoking or drinking their money away that's what really put me off, that sort of smug attitude...
I may have read your post wrong and if i have i apologise
I certainly didn't mean it in any kind of judgemental way. I was just pontificating that if people smoke and drink alcohol daily (as many of my friends do) and run a car and have kids to raise and a mortgage to pay (as most people do) they would not be able to live on my income.
That isn't smug, it's just a truth.
I can live on my income not because I am "better" than anyone else, but simply because I don't have many expensive outgoings. What a pity you chose to apply a nasty label to something that is a pure statement of fact.0 -

and how many more metaphors can I fit in one sentence? :rotfl:
I am waiting for the plug for one of her books, I would guess some sort of self-help thing.0 -

It came across as smug, that isn't putting a nasty label it was how your post came across and whilst that may be your world around you there are many more that can't live on your salary just due to general everyday outgoings such as gas and electricity, paying those ordinary everyday bills for some is a struggle. SOme of us have been hit very hard in the housing line, you were lucky.....Unfortuantely some of us have to have a car and have to have more heating...Kids to a fair number is a luxury in some ways and one they can ill afford and one they have to do without, however heartbreaking that do be...0 -

You could not be further wrong.
My books are all about local history, pertinent only to the town I live in.
I made this clear upthread.
And I would never say which town as that would blow my anonymity. Book titles lead to my website which contains my home address. I have attracted enough venom on this thread merely by making a living for myself by taking in lodgers, I don't want my home address posted on here so the jealous dogs can come and throw bricks through my windows.0 -

Now you are just being deliberately nasty. You know full well that people upthread criticised me by saying "Huh, I could not POSSIBLY live on YOUR income".
I will henceforth ignore you as you are clearly just trying to pick an argument.0 -

Unlike you I really like having lodgers. I'm outgoing and sociable, enjoy meeting new people and getting to know them. I enjoy the company and just knowing other people are in the house is a comfort to me when I am alone on the sofa or in bed. I find it far better than living with family, where, from what I see around me, there always seem to be arguments. Your home is never really your own if you live with anybody else, even your loved one!0 -

You state a fact, a different opinion and you get accused of being nasty...Hmm maybe i'll join the doubters on this thread...:D0 -
Some questions for all the nice, decent people on here:
1. Do you think I would have received more or less venom if I lived on state benefits instead of taking in lodgers?
2. As the critics attack people on benefits (on other threads) AND people who take in lodgers to make a living, they must have a blueprint of how we all ought to be making a living, so they can attack anyone who lives any other way. What exactly is that blueprint?0 -
