Hi Quin. I dumped him way back in '99 after he cheated on me with a girl at uni... LOL. Current boyfriend owns his own place, but has spent every weekend here for ten years. We don't see that much of the lodgers as I have my own office, sitting room, bedroom with ensuite bathroom, so we only really pass them on the stairs and share the kitchen and garden with them.
Why would your b/f not be happy with you living with other people?
I am glad to hear there is someone else that can live on £230pw. Actually with book royalties, fees for talks etc I probably average about £280pw. The household bills total £100pw.0 -

as I said - good for you ,
however as you asked then we are poles apart in our perspectives. I get 37 days holiday a year, that enables me to ski in the winter, have good break at Easter and a summer holiday - the latter usually being long haul abroad. I own and show 6 vehicles as well as having family commitments... as I said well done, but each to their own...
Thanks!
I have been abroad six times in 18 months. I went to Australia for a month on a whim. Could never have done that when employed, could not have got a month off at one time.0 -
good for you, but you can not buy a beach hut where I live for less than 80k, as for a flat for £12k blimey thats cheap, even 10 odd years ago. If I had bought a house 10 years ago, I would have been quids in too, because prices have risen so much, most people are sitting on great nest eggs. Glad you are happy though and why not.Food and Smellies Shop target £50 pw - managed average of £49 per week in 2013 down to £38.90 per week in 20160

Good for you. But if that's truthfully the case, I'm wondering why you changed your original post from something along the lines of "I know some people here will hate me for being on IB" to "I am no longer on IB" (and added in the bit about writing five books)?
Apologies if I'm mis-remembering - but your post and your self-contradictory edits (in your comments as well as your OP) all strike me as being a little odd.
You misremembered. I said I bet some people will hate me for receiving IB. I meant in the past. When I re-read my post I realised that the way I had worded it made it seem as though I am still receiving IB, which I have not for the past eight years.
I also realised that I'd forgotten to mention writing local history books, which is pertinent because it explains what I do with my free time, plus I do make some extra income from book sales and public talks. About £2,500 a year. Not much, but pays for holidays etc.0 -

Same here now. A shabby two bed flat opposite me recently went for £60k, but generally most flats start around £80k, and houses £120k.
It was an amazing bargain, that flat. All the others I looked at were £16-18k, this was a repo, priced at £12k. I sold it to the woman upstairs, no agents involved. I still have all the legal paperwork to do with that purchase and sale; happy to scan and email to anyone who does not believe me.0 -

OP you are awesome, fantastic and such an inspiration, saying that though id be gutted if i had 3 randoms walking round my house so i take back my initial comment.
Don't you know that millions of people make a living from running hotels, guest houses and bed and breakfasts, and have complete strangers coming and going the whole time?
My lodgers are far less "random" than hotel guests. They are interviewed and vetted, have to provide references and be in permanent employment, and they give me substantial deposits. The current three are all graduates, one with a master's degree, and all work in professional careers. They have all lived here for over a year and have proved themselves to be reliable, decent, civilised people.
Don't you let anyone into your house, then? No friends? Well, if you DO have friends, then I must remind you that THEY were once strangers to you -- or "randoms"!0
