In the Morrisons store where I work it is in between the cornflour and the bicarbonate of soda. It is a very small blue paperback book.

  • My Be-Ro book came yesterday after I sent off 3 50ps sellotaped to a piece of card(how old-fashioned is that?).

I'm not sure that any of these recipes are going to fit in with my healthy eating plan, but I DON'T CARE!!! :j

  • Hi Squeaky,

Thanks for giving out the chocolate cake recipe. Yes-I know it was some time ago-but I've only just come across this thread. I was wondering if you could use butter instaed of marg or the soft butters?

I was only thinking yesterday about the cake. I remember my Mother having the book but I've searched high and low-and I can't find it.

Perhaps I'll have to send for one or try Morrisons.

Hello, just come accross this thread, I have the McDougalls flour 'Basic Baking' book 28th edition and have used that lots, its now in its 34th edtn and available from them for £1.25 - does anyone else have/use this one?

I like their rather kitchly named 'cut and come again cake' which is a very easy to make fruit cake. :D

I suspect its not all that different to the Be-ro one, their website has a fairly similar layout, its https://www.mcdougalls.com and if anyone wants it, you can order the book from there or via the address on any of their flour bags.

Tweedmouth Co-Op has them for 99p as does Cramlington Sainsburys - damn it I paid £1.25 and used a stamp to get mine - that's 52p down the pan (the stamp was 26p from CostCo in the just-before-the-post-went-up rush :D)

Oh I wish I'd seen this before yesterday. Sent off £1.50, But could have had instant gratification from mr sainsbury -I'm going up to Blagdon this afternoon too.

Wonder if the post one will come in the post in time for a christmas pressie for someone else ......

wanders off thinking of devious ways to justify buying one this afternoon - would the window cleaner like it instead of a christmas tip? Praps not. The lollipop man mmmm......

I bought mine a few years ago from the Co-op and, like your friend, I swear by it. Good, basic baking recipes, but I think they do different books. I bought one when I saw it because my dad used to have one when I was young (he was a chef). Not that expensive either.
