Thank you Grumswife for the lovely, easy Tea Loaf recipe.
I have made 3 since I first read your recipe last week, all with great success.
Like other people who have tried the recipe I also "tweaked" it a little and added some ground mixed spice (3 teaspoons) & made it with sultanas instead of currants (incidentally, sultanas were MUCH cheaper than currants. I bought Sainsburys basic sultanas). I also used up some brown sugar which was lurking in the cupboard. Quite brave for me adapting recipes as I'm usually a stickler for following to the letter but thought I'd be daring!
Anyone who's still wondering if they should have a go at the recipe should have a go! It's lovely & adding some ground mixed spice not only tasted even more delicious but made the house smell lovely too & I was good & baked them at the same time as a pasta bake so made good use of the oven! I am trying to be more economical!
Thanks again. x0 -

I haven't got any grease proof paper or baking parchment. Do you think that the cereal packets will be okay if I cut them up to line the tin?Second purse £101/100

Hi Grumswifie, I made the tealoaf again and it was better this time. And I lined the tin with tinfoil as I didn't have any baking parchment. Last time I didn't line the tin at all and had to prise it out. It is definitely one of my favourite recipes now because it is so easy to do and tastes good.Second purse £101/100

If you want to invest in a recipe book then I can recommend Mary Berry's Fast Cakes, every one a winner. Most of the recipes take only ten minutes to prepare and under an hour to bake.

Recently I've been making batches of caramel crispie bars, very similar to rice Krispie squares which cost a fortune in the shops:
4oz margarine
4oz toffees or caramels
4oz marshmallows
7oz rice krispies
Melt the margarine, toffees and marshmallows together over a low heat. Stir in the rice krispies then turn out into a roasting tin, gently smooth out till level. Leave to set and cut into squares or bars. They do keep quite well but you'll probably have to hide them
I use value toffees and value puffed rice, the cheap coco pops type is especially good in this. Also I look out for big bags of cheap marshmallows, pound shops sometimes have them, the last bag I bought was £1 for 1kg and has lasted for many batches.0 -
I made your yummy teabread, it's soooo simple, and we both loved it. The kids didn't get a look in, fortunately they had twinks to console them :-) . We used a mulled apple spice tea bag, it was lovely. I'm thinking maybe ginger lemon tea next.Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0
