Didn't stores used to do this? I seem to remember stores having one or two tills for cash only. Early 80's I think, but then again I have trouble remembering my own name. :>

You'd always get one cnüt with card/cheque in the cash only queue and slow everything down. Similar to the people with trollies in basket only queues.

I dont read any of those newspapers and I dont need to. OAP's being robbed after they pick up their pension, people being stabbed for less than I'd dare carry in my handbag! You dont have to read any junk tabloid to hear about those kind of crimes.

Do you leave your house & car unlocked because "most" people arent interested in breaking in & stealing your stuff??...I shouldnt think so. Does that make you paranoid?? Apparently so...

The crimes I mentioned do happen and I dont think that you should belittle them :mad:

and a few hundred £'s is alot to go food shopping with, get urslf over to oldstyle for tips on how to get the food shop bill down:D

I do indeed. I was away at festivals this summer and left my windows open.

I never close my bathroom or kitchen windows.

I've never been broken into (I couldn't have been broken into if I left windows open anyway ), as most people aren't interested.

Thanks to all who participated in this thread in an appropriate manner. For those others who only took part to critique or in some other negative manner I have the following:

1. I do not use chip n pin as I do not want big brother to know my spending habits or local

2. The shop offers this manner of payment - it should ensure its processes take no longer than other forms of payment, they are at fault not I

3. I prefer chqs to cash as my EoM shop avgs £150 - who but a madman would carry that amount of cash.

4. I have never had a chq bounce & am not in th habit of acting illegally

5. It is your choice as to which Q you join - it is also your choice to leave & join another if the one you are in is moving slowly

6. I am Scottish & a Highlander so therefore I'm allowed to be difficult
