exactly the reason why alot of places are stopping accepting cheques.bobthedog wrote:Some people use cheques to buy stuff when payday is still a couple of days away. Whilst technically fraud, a lot of folks rely on it.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
Cheques and cash are antiquated ... I for one would be quite happy to see both being phased out totally. We have debit and credit cards and online banking available (from many) ... I am just surprised that some people still use cheques.

I rarely use cash but use the debit card.
This saves me money in the long run.
Example.... If I wanted to buy something that cost £16 and withdrew £20 out of the bank to pay for it, I would spend the other £4 on junk.
As it is, I just spend exactly what I have to.
P.S. Also confused about the "name and shame" comment.0 -

I have had to do this too , saves me going either overdrawn or hungry. people are becoming so intolerant now, try to make up a wee story about the person using the cheque, this helps to calm you down. it cant be more than 5 minutes;) it,s not fruad a cheque is a promisary note garanteed by the bank same as a cash note. wouldnt like to wait at bank of England for my pounds worth of goldbobthedog wrote:Some people use cheques to buy stuff when payday is still a couple of days away. I am not convinced you are correct there ... I was under the impression that writing a cheque against unavilable funds was, technically speaking, fraud ... however I think there is something related to 'deliberate intent'. I believe in the instance cited that the expectation of funds arriving probably mitigates this action, and banks do allow cheques to go through when there are not suitable funds available.teedy23 wrote:it,s not fruad a cheque is a promisary note garanteed by the bank same as a cash note. wouldnt like to wait at bank of England for my pounds worth of gold
The interesting thing is that there are a lot of cries for funds to clear faster. This could well include cheques which would mean that more people could get caught out.

So what do I do I haven't got any cash as I rarely carry it, the takeaway doesn't take cards and I have 2 little boys looking all forlorn asking for fish & chips if cheques do get phased out?0 -
If they get rid of cash and cheques then everywhere would have to take cards.MissSunshine wrote:So what do I do I haven't got any cash as I rarely carry it, the takeaway doesn't take cards and I have 2 little boys looking all forlorn asking for fish & chips if cheques do get phased out?
However having re-read your post are you saying that the forlorn ones currently eat cheques and if they get phased out they will have to eat fiah and chips? Not a bit of wonder they are forlorn
