TT or BT which is best?

I'm on an old Talktalk 3 package, on a rolling contract, but I need to change to an unlimited package as i've gone over my 40gb allowance.

If I stay with TT I'll have to sign up for a 12 month contract on TTplus, but if I return to BT on their unlimited package, 18 month contract, costing about £10 a month more, I would have the option of going to any of the other broadband providers at the end of the contract.

At the moment we often have trouble getting on the internet in the evenings but would BT be any better?

Are you on LLU with Talk Talk?
Could you expand on not being able to get on to the internet in the evening?

Yes, we're LLU'd to TT. If we try to get on the internet at peak times, we can't connect and if we do manage to get on, it is very very slow, loading pages and dowloading stuff.

Can you log on to your router and post its line statistics.

BTW are you connecting wired or wirelessly?

I've got a wireless router, Buffalo, but it's not listed on the kitz site, so I couldn't do the test.

There is a page within the router GUI that displays the line stats. Click the link below.

    http://192.168.1.1

Click on Status at the top, then ADSL from the menu on the left.

If you are prompted to login, the username is admin and the password is admin.

I've tried http://192.168.1.1 but it keeps saying it can't connect.

Looks like you will have to dig out the manual.
Or google for the Buffalo model you have.
Do you have the same problem when connecting to your router using a wired connection?

Sorry, I don't have the manual or anything because it was installed by a computer shop which has now closed down. Its a Buffalo WBMR-G54. I never use a wired connection so i'm not sure whether it would be any different. I'll see if I can find the old TT router and see if it makes a difference. We don't seem have a problem any other time so I just thought it was 'traffic shaping' or something, which is one of the reasons I wondered if it would be any better with BT.

The reason I asked about wired/wireless is that wireless signals can suffer from interference, cordless phone base stations for example.
Neighbours wifi can interfere as well especially if they are using the same channel as you are.

There is a useful programme called inSSIDer which scans for this.

I'll see if I can find the line stats info for the Buffalo.

Is you router plugged into your master socket or an extension?

Well, the Buffalo appears to use the log in as prevoiusly posted i.e

We need to establish whether when you can't connect whether its your wireless link to the router, the routers connection to the exchange or a network problem.
