Hello lovely folk
Thought I'd check in again - very nearly 8mths AF! Who'd have thought it! We went to a mahoosive, glamourous ball on Saturday night. We go every year (DH is a star and saves up through the whole year to take us). For the previous 6 years I have drank very heavily and thought that it was a great night. I'd fall into bed in the early hours and wake up feeling like death, trying to recall if I did anything terrible and struggling to eat breakfast. I would then have to sleep through a lot of the day once home to recover. This would be a good year - other years I've been unable to keep my breakfast down.
Anyhoo, this year....I drank orange juice and water all night. I saw people becoming more and more drunk and really believe they'd have stayed AF if they witnessed what I did. People couldn't stand up straight, had to be told to get off the tables, stumbled on the dance floor and showed each other over affection. Their eyes weren't focussed and some people had paralasis of the face. I mentally willed some of them to stop drinking as I saw them top their glasses again and again. We moved from the ball room to a small bar towards the end of the night and I watched staff having to clean up vomit. This is not me being high and mighty - this is me with a dropped jaw knowing that I would have been one of them last year and the 5 before.
This year I danced through most of the evening, went to bed at 3am and woke up only feeling a bit rough because I'm not used to getting only 5 hours sleep (don't think I could do night feeds again). I ate my moneys worth of breakfast and saw some of the people from the night before looking very worse for wear. I can remember the whole night and can confirm that I had a blooming fantastic night! I can't wait for next year when I will, without a doubt be repeating this year and every year forever more.
* One note - the pre-ball drinks were free and set out for guests as they arrived for the party. They only had champayne poured out and I had to ask for a non-alcohol alternative - they had to fumble about under the table and served my orange juice in a hi-ball tumbler glass. Very interesting.
Congrats to you all in your decision to cut back/abstain. This thread is sooo supportive. :A

Went out on Friday with my team and my alcohol consumption was NIL, had 4 pints of diet coke instead and was so bloated I went home after the meal (which was lovely !).
Went out with £60 and came home with £35 so that was another reason to be happy as well as being sober !.0 -
Mornin' all. Not a good start to Dec chez anna. A lovely surprise night out on Friday - 3 drinks - all good then horrible mulled wine (why? why?) on Saturday and a "back to the old ways" day yesterday miserable and drinking alone. So no AFDs to report but hey ho onwards and upwards - I'll go for 3 for this week's SNC please Bearacus0

Good morning. I would like to cut down my alcohol consumption, as has increased a lot recently, to unhealthy levels.
I have a lot going for me right now, so need to get back on track. Seriously worried about my health.
I would like to start by having a few alcohol free days. Today will be one.0 -

Welcome unself and good luck on your AF journey.
2 AFDs for me thanks Shaggy. Had quite a few drinks on Saturday and stayed up till 3am . Haven't had a hangover like yesterday's for ages, reminded me how much I hate them.

Thank you. Not feeling too pleased with myself at the moment, so hoping this will help. What brought it home was hearing of a mum in her 30's whose dying of liver cancer.0 -
Dont worry Unself you can do it !.
Before I stopped drinking, I was drinking 12 litres of Belgian Stella (5.2% ABV) per weekend.
I stopped because earlier this year I had corrective surgery on my left wrist which meant I was off on full paid sick leave for 10 weeks.
5 weeks into being off I just got bored with drinking and stopped immediately.
Since then I have had 1 weekend of alcohol (my birthday in October) and went straight back on the wagon again and have stayed there.
So dont worry you CAN do it !Thank you. Not feeling too pleased with myself at the moment, so hoping this will help. What brought it home was hearing of a mum in her 30's whose dying of liver cancer.0 -
Thank you. Its nice to have some encouragement. Its the last thing I feel like doing at the moment, which is something.0

I'm definitely nervous about this month regarding drinking. We already have drink in the flat ready for christmas(not much but its the beginning) and its a little unsettling. I have also put off putting the decs up as it usually goes hand in hand with drinking ..... which usually leads to arguing about bauball arrrangement on the tree :rotfl:.
Think december may send me mad
