  • Hi, think this is the recipe Delia used last night for the pastry. Go to Delia online and search for quick and easy flaky pastry.

    Hope this helps

She added sage & onion to the sausagemeat. Would dried sage do? I dont have any fresh herbs as they would go to waste.

Yum, I lurve sausage rolls, I usually make then with some chopped onion which I don't cook, just add raw onion to the sausage meat.

I also like them with some made up sage and onion stuffing mixed in - equally yum!

    hi everyone

i'm thinking of trying delia's vegetarian sausage rolls for the first time this christmas - the recipe calls for her 'quick and easy flaky pastry', would jusroll puff pastry still be the right thing to use for this?

my flatmate's mum makes these and i lurrrrve them, so will be terribly disappointed if i muck them up in the hoildays!

    thanks

Delia has just said on the radio that there is nothing wrong with using bought pastry, but by the stuff made with butter as it's nicer!

    Hi Jackie,

As this thread has dropped down the Old Style board I have added it to the main thread on making sausage rolls where you'll find lots of tips on what pastry to use.

  • Hello, Id like to share these sausage rolls I made. I dont usually like sausage rolls, the meat is always so bland, I hate eating them. So I made up my own recipe which is a combination of ideas from Hunters Rolls, Poachers Roll and Delia Smith sausage roll.

    Ingredients:

*4 value sausages with skins removed
*An amount of value bacon approx 2 rashers worth, snipped up really small with fat cut off
    *3 teaspoons of horseradish sauce/cream
    *Salt and pepper
    *1 grated apple
*Some chopped nuts - I used 10 beech nuts and 9 cob nuts I collected in autumn; the poachers roll recipe calls for chopped walnuts...a brazil nut or hazelnut will do I think, although the nuts are not necessary.
    *Beaten egg to bind/glaze

*Delias 'cheats' flaky pastry (4oz frozen butter, 6oz plain flour, & water, see Delia Online)

    Method:

Mix the sausage, bacon, seasoning, apple, horseradish, nuts & little bit of the egg in a bowl until combined into a sticky mass. Refrigerate.

Make the flaky pastry and refrigerate.

When ready, make up the sausage rolls as usual (I use flour on my hands to handle the sausage mixture), place on tray bake tin, decorate, glaze with the beaten egg (add milk if theres not quite enough egg to do them all)

Bake for 20-30 min on around 180 C, checking they dont get too dark.

    Eat!

These were SOOO delicious - I had planned to freeze them for xmas, but they were gobbled up before they even cooled down!! :rotfl:
