We're very happy with TalkTalk Business via LLU. :j
£23 a month for line rental, and unlimited ADSL2+ broadband that syncs at 15Mbps.
There was a slight miff when i found that TalkTalk charges an additional 55p a month for Caller Display, since we previously got it for free with BT by asking for "BT Privacy".
When we joined TalkTalk, they waived the connection charge of £30, and we supplied the router so saved another £30 there.
The voice call charges with TalkTalk aren't very cheap. In fact mobile calls, especially to network 3 are extortionate, but we plan to use VOIP any way.
Beyond the initial telephone call to TalkTalk requesting the service, I've only dealt with TalkTalk customer services by email. They are slow to respond, but do respond eventually. TalkTalk don't seem any worse than British Telecom in that respect. I've spent long periods of time on the phone to BT, "doing the voice menus", and waiting in call queues.
The main reason for going with TalkTalk is that they offer 24Mbps (Max) ADSL2+ via their own DSLAMs which they have installed in our LLU BT exchange.
BT's original DSLAMs which provide wholesale IPStream services for most ISPs are limited to just 8Mbps (Max).
So there was an instant improvement in speed on joining TalkTalk.0 -

LOL
Yes, I truly do hate this company - even with my high tolerance levels for things and my PMA!
In fact it was my PMA that sorted it in the end... very long story to go into but I would never use this company ever again is the end result!PMA - Positive Mental Attitude
It works for me - you try it!0 -
I've posted elsewhere about how I'm happy with TT, but think this thread needs a bit of balance, so here goes again.
Speed consistant around 15mbps - and so much cheaper too. Transferred to TT having been with Virgin Broadband for years - never above 2mbps (despite numerous complaints), frequent outages and recently no email for 4 days (affecting thousands). This was the final straw and the prompt to get moving...
I am paying one quarter of Virgin prices. Took up recent offer and transferred line from BT, calls from Phone Co-op (which is excellent and cheap btw) and broadband - and I'll hopefully get £50 cashback. It all went smoothly on transfer day - except for Virgin who owe me some rental and do not reply to emails.
I also like the way you can view your account, and alter/add services with minimum hassle. In all, I seem to be getting a good service from TalkTalk. I did find my one phone call to their Call Centre a bit of a nightmare so will post any queries online.
I opted for Essentials package as I don't make many daytime calls (these are expensive, with a connection charge) but, if you do, there are other packages/add ons where these are free - and for me, would still work out cheaper and with much faster speed to boot!“Rain drops are not the ones who bring the clouds.”0 -

Your speed is VERY dependent on your local exchange. Mine is a heap of of a rural exchange (non LLU) powered by either mice on a wheel or a pensioner winding an elastic band.Time is a concept of relativity, yet as a concept, relativity is timeless.0 -

ISPs provide internet access from non-LLU exchanges using BT's IPStream service (or rarely BT DataStream). ISPs have to rely on BT's DSLAMs (modems) installed in the exchange as well as the BT pipes that run from the exchange to either their own backbone, or to BT's backbone network.
If the ISP is penny-pinching and doesn't commission enough bandwidth from BT for the number of customers at peak times (statistical multiplexing) then speeds for the end user will inevitably fall.
I sympathise.
It's really hard getting BT to take an interest.
A long-standing fault meant that our upstream mysteriously dropped to 64Kbps, and on occasion to just 32Kbps. It became useless for Skype, so not fit for purpose. When I complained, I was told by the ISP that this poor upstream speed was deemed acceptable by BT, who wouldn't take a fault report since ADSL, they said, is essentially a downstream service. It was this total lack of interest that made me conclude that we had nothing to lose from migrating to TalkTalk.0 -
Steer well clear of TT - have been 5 weeks without Broadband and they have no clue what their doing, no customer service to speak of and although they book engineer phone calls for certain times etc they don't phone or turn up when they say they will.
I was a customer of Pipex for years, that was taken over by TT - I am to be frank relieved I'm going asap.0 -
Basically you get what you pay for. If you want cheap, then cheap, cr&p quality and awful (rude) customer service is what you get from TalkTalk.
Personally I wouldn't go with them again even if they were free.0 -
If it works properly, the people who have Talk Talk LLU broadband do seem happy with it, from what I have read.
If it doesn't work properly, the support is - again from what I have read - absolutely atrocious.
If you have VM cable broadband on the 20 meg package, the average actual achieved speed is about 18 to 19 meg. (I also thought 20 meg users were able to be upgraded to 30 meg)
The average speed for ADSL2+ LLU broadband is probably only about a third of that. You can get an estimate of the speed you're likely to get from various speed checkers including the one at www.samknows.com
VM is all in house, Talk Talk involves BT Openreach.
So, potentially, you'll be moving to a much slower service with dreadful support.
If on the other hand your actual cable speeds are poor (e.g. a congested area) then Talk Talk might be faster, but I'd imagine it's very unlikely.0 -
thanks for all the opinions.
have just read the Retentions thread, and may try the cancel/retentions route.0
