Are TalkTalk any good? better than Virgin?

hi,
I have looked at transfering over to TT from VM.
below is the little bit from this websites little patter:
"£50 automatic cashback: New TalkTalk Essentials customers can currently get free connection (usually £29.99) and 50% off phone and broadband at £3.49/month (usually £6.99) for the 12 months of the contract. The offer's on until 8pm on Monday 31 March. "
when I phoned up asking for the Plus deal, they wanted full price of £14.99, in addition to a connection and activation fee.
they said the fee was to activate a landline (as VM is cable).
also, they said I couldnt have the 7.49 deal, and I had to pay 14.99 because I didnt have a previously active line.
I dont understand that, as once they connect up, surely I will then have an active line??
It seems I am paying the full price for not having a previously working line.
anyway, is TT any good, relative to VM?
Oh, by the way, the offer I am looking for is unlimited anytime calls (to include 0870 and 0845 numbers, as I do quite a few business calls), and unlimited broadband. not bothered by TV deals.

BT would charge you up to £130 for a new line, what are TT asking for ?
Are TT any good? No.
Are they better than VM? That's more debatable.
TT are very cheap on an LLU exchange, the price you pay is the terrible CS should anything go wrong and you need to speak to someone who has a clue.
And bear in mind that once you are on a TT LLU line, then you have to come back to BT for a 1 year line rental contract should you want to leave TT. LLU to LLU transfers are rarely possible. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
For BB Virgin for me anyway have been excellent - great speeds on the 50MB, TalkTalk BB was a disgrace, im on the middle class phone package for virgin i think and i only use the phone after 6pm for outgoing calls so i don't have any problems, TalkTalk all in all where sh*t for me - support/service you name it.The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability.0

I HATE Talk Talk with a passion. Their customer service is the worst I have ever experienced in my life. They are shockingly bad at everything once you have a problem with your broadband or landline.
AVOID at all costs is my personal advice.PMA - Positive Mental Attitude

My OH's granddad had TalkTalk, they were worse than useless. Don't go near them is my advice.
If you want decent broadband service, I highly recommend Zen Internet. Zen also have a home phone package for £11.22 (this includes line rental from them, not BT) or Home Talk Plus for £17.35 which includes 1000 minutes per month (I use this because it includes cheap international rates). My Internet costs me a little more, but it's worth it. It's reliable, quick and if I do have a problem, the customer service is actually good!Dec GC; £208.79/£220
