This is the Daily Thread for 21.11.06. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
I can't believe I made it first again?
Anyway I had to get up early today, mainly due to a curry last night. The air in the bedroom was starting to upset the missus.
It was a fantastic curry too. A place called the Ganges in Truro.
It's raining again out there. I am going to continue with my construction of the ark today just in case.
A nice relaxing morning today and then i ought to think about Christmas.... Too many presents and not enough ideas.
Have a nice one y'all

Good morning to you all.

Again up since 4.30am as couldn't sleep. Got a hot water bottle on my knee now so thats sorting the pain out.
Taking SIL shopping today to do her months shop as she doesn't have car. Love looking at what other people put in their trolleys.
Had a fantastic shopping trip yesterday with DH and DS2. Got loads of bargains, mostly paid for with survey gift vouchers. Only spent £3.38 of own money.
Thanks to this site got some great offers and freebies in the shops, Boots in particular. Poundworld got me the fluffy hot water bottle cover I was after and at the sort of price I like to pay.
Well, as I only have £4.50 to last until next Friday I shall see what rock bottom bargains I can find from my local market to treat the family to.
Have a relaxing and fun weekend everyone.

Good morning eveeryone!
Can't believe I am on here early (for me!) and the second day in a row.
Couldn't sleep as worrying about Santa's grotto and how it will go at the school fair today!! DD is a bit upset as Santa's presents were there and only went up to age 7 and she is over 8! I think someone just catered for Infant schoolage and forgot there were older siblings at junior school who still believe! She will see him anyway and we can always pass the present on to someone else!
A busy morning planned helping on the cake stall! Then off to my parents so the rest of the weekend will be relaxing, moneysaving and old style (we are having a games evening with just board games, some wine (from my mum) and I won't have to cook all weekend!)
Hope you all have good days wherever you are!0 -
Good morning everyone!
Well what a night last night was, ds3`s b.day tea turned into a complete well strange evening!!
I dont know if you rember me telling you all that a couple of weeks ago i had a phone call at 2am from a old school friend who has very bad mental problem, but she turned up on my doorstap last night just as i was preparing party tea.
No big deal appart from she was very edgey and looked `spaced out` i ask her where her hubby and kids were and she informed me she had been sectioned last tuesday and had just `done a runner` from our local mental hospital!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So i went into panic mode without showing it and managed to get her to phone her husband and tell him where she was, he told her he was coming to get her and wouldnt take her back to the hospital.
Then her mum phoned me and i had to pretend i was talking to someone else whilst her mum informed me the police were on there way to pick her up and i shouldnt do anything to upset her because of her state of mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To cut a long story short i got the kids out of the way without making it obvious and 20 mins later her dh arrived we both spoke to her and told her she had to go back to the ward, managed to get her in the car and thats when the police pulled up and put her in the police car.
Feel really bad that i lied to her but at the minute she is a danger to herself and police had to take her back!
So all in all a very eventful and strange birthday evening here!
Plans for today
footy
tidy up
and make something yummy for tea, oh and take ds3 to buy a bike with his b/day money!!
Sorry for long post all, still cant quite get my head round it!

Morning everyone :hello:
Don't know why I'm up so early
- I have already done my paid to clicks and checked Pigsback.
DD and DS and I are off to Manchester today to have a look at the Christmas markets. May even go on the Manchester Wheel and see what's on at the filmworks. Despite all of this, I'm hoping it will be a relatively cheap day out for us. I have lots of money to pay out this month and don't really want to be spending too much of it without something to show for it.
DLB You were put in an impossible situation and handled it excellently. Don't feel too guilty about lying to your friend. When she is better she will realise you did it for her own good.
furrypig Christmas never seemed quite the same when my DS and DD stopped believing in Santa.
The wonder on their faces when they came downstairs to loads of presents on Christmas morning was a joy to see. Enjoy whatever time you have left of this.
Hoping everyone has a super Saturday xxx"Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

Good morning all,
Really annoyed with Amazon.I spent the last few days in phone calls, consulting catalogues and web pages, and finally decided that the twelve items I wanted as Christmas presents were cheaper form Amazon. Finally placed the order and got the message that unless I paid for P&P they wouldn't get to me before Dec 27th, so I changed the order to include £ 8 + P&P, placed it, and a message popped up right after I'd committed myself to the order, that it wouldn't get to me until Dec 27th at the earliest GGGRRRRRRRRRR:mad:
However. Good morning all. I was going to set off early for Christmas shopping in York, but now I don't know whether or not I have 12 extra gifts to buy, so I'm a bit confused. Working right up until Christmas means I really must get organised NOW!
Also D.H. was supposed to be seeing to Caley the dog but there's no sign of him yet, and since his breakfast, the dog has (avert your eyes if you haven't had breakfast yet )[Whispers:] Thrown up three times on three different carpets.
Do you ever get the impression its would be better to crawl back into bed & hide from the day ahead?
I seem to have run out of steam over the past few days, the anaemia isn't helping and I don't feel I'm doing my job particularly well. My Teaching assistant has been run off her feet as I stay in my seat to avoid keeling over, and I haven't been able to hold it together enought to be tactful when the children make mistakes. Several of them are going through some awful things at the moment, including two family deaths. One boy pesters me about 25 times per 3/4 hour lesson (my T.A. logged it) He needs the support but he's driving me over the edge. I haven't lost my temper yet, but I don't think I'm much use to the Class right now.
Anyway, that's work, and it's the weekend HURRAH
So, do I dig DH out & go shopping? Or do I spend yet another weekend following everyone else's needs & not my own.
Is there an "Amazon complaints " board anywhere on here?
Happy Saturday everyone
Love Jane (Topher):o0 -
morning to all,
DLB It sounds like something from a soap opera - hope everything turns out okay for your friend. You did the right thing - she needs help and this way she can get it without being a danger to herself or anyone else. It must have been hard for you though.
FurrypigIts the first year my 10yr old dd doesnt believe - she asked me (again - has been asking since she was 5!) when her tooth fell out - I finally told her there was no tooth fairy and the inevitable question about the big man arose again - and I told her.
She is devastated! But she begged me for the truth - DH not impressed with me either! She has been very good though, shes written her letter and keeps talking about Santa - my 8 year old is none the wiser and neither is my 12 year old (only I'm sure she knows but hasn't asked or said - so I'll just go along with it for as long as she wants!)
Hopefully we will all get carried away with the magic of Christmas and all will be well.
Weather is horrid - even the cats don't want to go out!
Will go shopping today and we have a party for my niece at the snowdome - all the weekends have something to cram in from now till crimble! No rest for the wicked!
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
Take care all xxx

Morning all! Wet and manky here. Had 8 people for dinner last night, and cooked an enormous rib of beef, with all the roast dinner trimmings. I took a pic which I'll post later on Mr Bad Example's roast dinner thread. Made 3 puddings, Thriftlady's chocolate pudding, and Hex2's cappuccino cake. Both were absolutely yummy. Also has HG apple and damson compote with honey, yogurt and shortbread hearts, as 2 of my friends have diabetes, so could mix and match from that. I'm now sorting out the clearing up. People didn't leave until nearly 2am so I wasn't in the mood at that time.
DLB, don't be too hard on yourself, hun. Your first priority was to your children, and you've done absolutely the right thing by your friend, too.
Furrypig, my children are 13 and 11. They've had doubts about Santa for years, but when I suggested that this year they might be too big for elves and stockings, there was almost a mutiny!! They still love to go along with it, and probably will for many more years.
Topher, I made an order from Amazon for my DS a couple of months ago. He then found the item cheaper, so I was able to cancel it, even a few days later. I had a similar experience to you last Christmas - the item said it would be delivered in time, but when I'd placed the order, my e-mail said January!!
Went Christmas shopping with DH yesterday, and got most things. We're not having much this year, and the children have been quite specific in what they've asked for.
DS hasn't got football today, so I'm intending to take the children to Leeds on the train to get some clothes, and the last few bits.
We're then off to a party tonight, as some friends are moving down south, and have hired a pub room and disco. It's just round the corner, so we can walk, and don't need a babysitter. Looking forward to it, but don't think I'll stay late.
Back to the clearing up, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0
