What else did you have to fill out on the form? Did it ask for personal details like name, address etc? I don't understand why some services ask for all those details, especially when they don't explicitly mention the Data Protection Act etc. They have to be able to justify why they are collecting your info, what they are storing it for etc. I find people just give away their details without question really easily. We should be entitled to ask these questions without being made to feel uncomfortable.

It really annoys me when hairdressers do it. I am walking in to pay cash for a haircut. Why do they need my name and address too?!

They asked if you had anything wrong with your feet. I imagine if you did have you wouldn't be quick to confess or you wouldn't get to do it and nobody checked.

What about people with verrucas? Are they allowed? Thought that would make a yummy treat for the fish! ;)

I can't help feeling really sad for the fish being kept/bred just for this purpose:o

I have had the fish pedicure - a few times - and I love it, it is tickly at first, but then becomes very relexing - feels a bit like jet streams of water - very nice. It is very good for my excema on my hands - yip - I did my hands too hehe, and very good for dry skin, very good for tired feet - as they feel much more refreshed and lighter. I think you should try things once in life - and if you like - then try try again- enjoy x:EasterBun:EasterBun

I've had this before and it was an awsome experience. The fish didn't seem to mind :D
  • Many people have said that their chiropodists recommend against fish pedicures for all sorts of reasons but remember that they are not going to advocate a service that is in direct cpmpetition with their own!!!

Most places will check for verrucas etc. My local one, the lady washes your feet first, and checks for wounds, verrucas etc, and you wouldn't be allowed to do it if you had anything like that.

Also, to the person who said they feel sorry for the fish - this is similar to what they do in the wild/sea anyway, where they suck dead scales off larger fish. They wouldn't do it if they didn't want to!!

  • as a health care worker and someone who works in infection control i would STRONGLY reccomend against these treatments, so little is known about the long term effects of cross contamination of not just the fish but the water. someone said that they had their feet checked for wounds and yet someone else had stated they tried in on their hand with excema! excema by definition is breaks to the skin so there is a potential risk of blood entering the water. Hepatitis c has been known to live in cold water and warm water for quite long periods of time and so the teoretical risk is there
bacteria such as MRSA and slaphylococus aureus are cariied on the skin and even a minute break to the skin in theory could lead to infection. although MRSA is generally not water borne whos to say these fish dont transport it in their mouths.

i would say until there is evidence either way why risk it? :o

OMG ! everyone is entilted to there view but for god's sake! it's just fish nibbling at your feet. I've had it done and it was fantastic!
If you don't fancy it don't do but don't try and scare others off:)

huh? that person is quite right to say what they have done about the risk of trying this treatment. if there are possible health issues with fish pedicures, then surely it would be wrong not to mention it.

if you want to do it then fine, on your head (or feet) be it, but there are those who would appreciate a warning, even if you are not one of them...

there are plenty of people who still smoke even though the boxes clearly state on them in huge letters that smoking kills....
