People such as myself who keep many fish will understand why this is incredibly cruel :(
People who don't keep fish or who have a goldfish in a bowl won't understand and it's very complicated, but if someone said they were going to put dozens of dogs in a tiny cage and send dirty humans in one by one for the dogs to clean with their tongues, day in, day out, until they died, people would have something to say about it... and the fish pedicure thing is hundreds of times worse for the fish than that.
I understand that currently the practice is legal and that people will choose to use it but I'd like to appeal to those who haven't thought it through to spare a thought for the fish,
    Thanks :(

I agree with this - it was my first thought when I saw these salons were starting to open here. I love to look after my feet with chiropody and regular pedicures but won't having a fish pedicure as I don't agree with several aspects of it - the fish are imported, not got any proof but would guess some die in transport, I can't see how the fish are getting a good quality of life kept in a small tank, it's not their natural habitat. I also wonder about the hygiene side of this practice. My chiropodist advises against these on the hygiene side. The salon I peered into in Birmingham looked very crowded and not very clean.
Up to everyone to decide for themselves but I feel they are cruel to the fish myself and won't be going:(

Those poor fishes having to eat the crusty bits from peoples feet

where is the code that brings the price down to £4

You have to register with Wahanda and they send you a personal code. It works and I even used several email addresses to get multiple codes :D

Ah, don't believe in personal choice then? :D

Of course i believe in free choice, just as i believe in free speech. It is a forum after all and would be pretty boring if we all agreed on every subject.:D

i tried this in canterbury, they had about 15 tanks, all with filters and running water. you had to complete a disclamer of course and one of the key points was no cuts or open wounds.
He then filled a foot spa and i saoked / cleaned my feet for a couple of minutes and then they were towel dried. While having my dip i was reading some material on the benefits of having it done,
I was amazed at the difference 15 minuts made, i am on my feet all day and do have them looked at on a regular basis but this was far smoother than they feel after the normal treatment.

I appreciate theyre are always going to be issues over the use of fish and the treatment and its like everything you try and look at the surroundings etc same as buying a pet, look at how its kept

They had a couple of these tanks at the Ideal Home Show and people had to sign an agreement of some kind before using them. HIV was mentioned to one woman! Apparently Health & Safety are working on getting these banned, I can see why really.

Opinion is divided on whether the fish treatment is cruel. Peta think that keeping fish in any tans deprives them of their natural life-

while in this article a freshwater biologist reckons the fish will only exhibit their natural behaviour if they want to

SO we are no further forward- I had one a few weeks ago off groupon and it was great- but I am a bit worried about cross infection.

What else did you have to fill out on the form? Did it ask for personal details like name, address etc? I don't understand why some services ask for all those details, especially when they don't explicitly mention the Data Protection Act etc. They have to be able to justify why they are collecting your info, what they are storing it for etc. I find people just give away their details without question really easily. We should be entitled to ask these questions without being made to feel uncomfortable.

It really annoys me when hairdressers do it. I am walking in to pay cash for a haircut. Why do they need my name and address too?!

I've tried it too, quite a nice feeling in a strange kind of way!

I wouldn't rush to have it done on a regular basis but nice to experience it! xx
