I thought it was pretty well established by now that most wealthy people get there by not wasting their money. It's just that the big spenders are publicised more.

Warren Buffett, the world's most successful investor, still lives in the home he bought in 1958 for $30k. In his beginning days, he was well known to prefer to bring lunch to work, etc.

His wealth is now in the tens of billions of dollars.

*If only it was not so difficult for people like us to become like him* But that's another debate: how to get from nothing to something!

Upward Mobility would be helpful here and Social equality. philosophical environment ie Wild 'Liquid' Free Market Capitalism , Economic Shock Therapy(Naomi Klein) and the Upward movement of money from the poor to the rich. (via Rental, via Groceries, via Bank, via poor wages/low benefits levels, via overpriced motor vehicles via EXPLOITATION etc etc).

As for me trying to !!!! off people everytime I am here.

As I stated before. I find this Forum Difficult. I fear ultimately I am not safe from judgement, Curtain Twitchers etc. I hope this situation changes and people might find it in their hearts to be more humbly helpful rather than standing in judgement.

I also have a Degree BA Hons in Government and Sociology, have engaged in rigorous discussions with practicisng Academics and whatever my intellectual weaknesses (which I try to acknowledge and deal with ) engage in a challenging Programme of Self Learning where I set the Agenda, work on my Questions and work on the answers or further questions.
This means at least I am not going to believe everything that the Media tells me a far more MSE position as I believe than if I merely went with what the Papers tell me.

  • Philosophy, Sociology so nothing very simple then! I just lack confidence as a Writer but it does not mean you should judge me.
MSE would be better working in a Redemptive Capacity rather than as Judge and Jury. (although I have seen some wonderful stuff regarding humble helping).

  • Mrs Moneypenny has abhorent attitudes' salaries cannot be too high or too low' that means she only cares for the Rich and this Programme is just a patronising attempt to guide the ignorant public into frugal righteousness so she can spend spend spend ;whilst we are forced to save save save.

  • MSE Forum Members would have made a better job and represented the people.
IMHO it should be [also] be about how to grab the quality, after all those rich !!!!!!!s have all the quality they want. why should we underlings be any different?

Oh no, it never occurred (spelling?) to me to compare/think of Aberfan (the f sounds like a v) with Abbafan. And I was in Wales at that time, not far from the disaster too. But now...!!!!.

And who is to judge over who is being "oversensitive" or not. I hate being told I'm oversensitive. I am as entitled to my hurt feelings as the rest of people. :D.

LIke you I've never misread Abbafan but might now!

  • Meanwhile, back on the ranch.

I loved the program because now I can say 'OO, I do that as well.' Thanks to the shared wisdom of OSMS.

Have set Sky+ to tape the next one.

I was really looking forward to this program, I don't know why as the first series irritated me.....................well I am not sure I will watch all this one either, judging by the first episode

Carpet tread on fencing  thought this was illegal too and poor cats who land on it by mistake

The family with £200 on food a week, like most and OH said it as soon as I told him, why do they never pick a family who are spending £60-£70 a week to save them money.....................nah too much like hard work

Mascara, UM can just imagine having to go to A&E cos I got loads of talc in my eyes or my eye swell up because of the content of the talc

    Very disappointing:(

It did remind me of a series, a while ago, about helping couple reign in their finances and save, with Alvin somebody, great financial expert but they chose families/couples who were spending £100 on takeaways, very easy to save when you do that.

It would nice for a program maker to make a series about real savings on people who were trying to cut costs already :T

we watched it with interest. We do a lot of it anyway but then its not really aimed at us Old Stylers is it:D

DH thought the carpet grippers on the fence would be illegal.

The tennis ball sink plunger looked interesting to me.

I noticed they bought Dolmio and in their bin was a ready made custard carton.

Thought the nails and cushions looked fun.

Not looking forward to the show about ofal though - dont eat meat.

I suppose its aim is to make people think about how much money they waste and to try and get them into the habit of scrimping a bit.

Like someone has already mentioned - it would be nice if they showed a family that are already careful how to save even more.
    Do what you love :happyhear

A hard wearing sink plunger only costs a couple of quid from a hardware shop. I think it's worth having one in the household 'tool kit' anyway.
