I find it states the bleedin' obvious a bit(although good for newcomers to frugality) and find the whole 'Miss Moneypenny' thing a bit contrived. I like the 'real people' tips best, except for the chap with the carpet grippers as I used to have cats...I dread to think of the pain and vets bills....Dismayed that they started the programme more or less telling folk to throw stuff away if it hasn't been eaten by its 'use by' date...I was so incensed I was moved to rant on my blog about it.0

I find it a bit rich that Mrs Moneypenny Heather somebody and her companion are 1) a former Investment Banker 2) a former City Broker which to me sounds like the Rich telling us to scrimp and save when they are whooping it up in qaulity Shopping Land.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

That Lady so and so with 30 acre Farm Estate is just plain mean.
I have heard of the filthy rich complaining about the cost of pies and buying an inferior one for £2.
The Poor have always been more generous but these people are without excuse.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

Why do you find it a bit rich? Sorry, but that smacks of having a chip on your shoulder.
I'm pretty well off but I still like to save money and be frugal. If the program is educational and gives good tips that help people out, does it matter what their former jobs were?0 -
I couldnt believe how much money that family were spending on food each week. They certainly did buy some rubbish.
In July, things hit the fan and I found myself totally skint wondering what on earth I was going to do - after rummaging in old purses I managed to scrape together £10 - £7 was spent on a slow cooker which I ummed about for an age. It is the best £7 I have ever spent as I use it constantly. At that time all I had in my fridge were 3 very old wrinkly tomatoes, a couple of carrots with black mould on the outside and an onion. Tomatoes got chopped and slung in the slow cooker along with the onions, the black bits were peeled off the carrots which were then sliced and bunged in the pot as well. A handful of pearl barley went in, some dried herbs, water, pepper and a stock cube. After it had cooked I blitzed it using a hand blender that I was bought yonks ago and never used (oh how I used to be so wasteful) - that soup was the best darn soup I have ever made. Any leftovers went into the freezer.
I have always made my own tv dinners when I have had roasts - I always to a bit extra and then box them up into portions.
I think I spend around £25 a month on food because I can live out of my store cupboard and freezer - sometimes mum gives me stuff. Last night I had sirloin steak (present from mum) served with lettuce, tomato and onion (present from mum) and a large jacket potato which cost me 19p from the greengrocer.
Financial advisors are often the worst when it comes to saving money though.0 -

I've just watched this, finally, and saw a tip I will be trying tomorrow. A few years ago I bought a roll of foam backed foil, specially made for putting behind radiators (I think it was about 50p from car boot) and finally got around to actually using it a few months ago. However I stuck it to the wall with double sided sticky tape, and it keeps falling off and hanging below the radiator, which is very annoying so I will be trying it with blu tack tomorrow to see if that holds it better.Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

I don't want this to come across as rude, but it's driving me barking (I'm petty like that)...are you spelling quality the wrong way on purpose because there is some new fangled meaning I'm missing? It's mispelled in your name, post and signature and driving me mad...sorry0 -

It's strange that there's a feeling out there that if you have a bit of money you should be obliged to spend it, unless you earn under X amount...in which case, you're justified in being frugal.
For me, being OS is also about being kind to the environment, feeling fulfilled, healthy and in touch with my food and being able to pass something great on to my daughter (both my actual savings and the mentality needed to acquire them)0 -
I often get the black mould on my carrots because I tend to buy huge bags of them. If I'm not going to use them immediately I peel them and put them in a jug of water in the fridge, and they keep for days.
They freeze well too, slice 'em up, bag 'em up - et voilà!
I make lots of carrot/onion/celery/garlic mixes - add peppers to the mix too, I think nearly every meal I make starts with that kind of combination. I have bags full in the freezer at the moment.0
