hubby and i watched some of it, but thought it was a bit boring tbh.
if i had 30 achers of land it would be so easy to be bit more self suffiecent. i would love chickens and hubby is fully supportive of me having them, but i'm so concerned over rats that it puts me off. maybe later on when i don't have such a young family and have more time it might be better for us.
The lady with yellow hat, omg she did my head in. no dress sence and what was the hat about ???
We did agree about the home made wine.we love homemade wine and i agree at 11p a bottle who wants shop wine, but our wine is a bit liek the pe pod wine from the good life, one glass each and your on the floor. WOW it is pokey.it has to be dilted with lemonade or you'd be unconceuis for a week, lol.
Having said that, i'll prob watch it again lol.0 -

That asian family were living on a fabulous income and it would still have been a fabulous income if they hadn't been spending the credit-card company or the bank's money on top. They didn't seem to appear particularly worried about it and I don't think they believed they were struggling at all. Imagine how much cash they could have in the bank if that bint's housekeeping money was cut to something sensible like £50 a week? I reckon they'll be completely out of debt before the summer holidays are over anyway. If only that could be the case for the rest of us.
i acually think they must be paying loads back in debt repayments and thats why there over spending so much because there hosue wasn't that grand and and really on there income they should be able to afford 5 takeaways a shopping obsession and a big carDEC GC £463.67/£450

OK, well I just wasted 24 minutes watching it, and won't really bother again I think. Chickens are NOT free providers of eggs...merely cheaper ones OVER TIME. I love my hens, but feed costs keep rising, and though for us its worth it for some people it won't be. I'm getting increasingly cross about the panacea keeping chickens is meant to be for money and welfare: lots of back garden chickens have a pretty boring life tbh!
The income of the family....well...we have a large income too, I'd like to feel I'm still welcome in old style. Ours is mainly swallowed by mortgage nowadays, and every penny still counts. More than before really. Seems to me even if they were earning twice as much anyone over spending to any degree but over £2000 a month needs help as much as someone managing on a smaller income. Its difficult to make a judgement really on the information given. Its common for Asian families to group together to buy a home for newlyweds....so there is a reasonable chance the family don't pay mortgage or rent....and even with the takeways and car tbh I can't see where all the money was going if that is the case here. It of course, may not be.0 -
We need a poorer family on there, not just people who earn as much as that family does. The Fiesta they made the husband drive made me laugh. Yes it will save petrol but it was a 60 reg so would cost about £10,000/12,000 and as it was a Zetec engine would cost more. I wish I could afford £12,000 on a new car to cut my fuel costs!
Dying undies isnt worth the bother. Bras wear out and lose support and have to be replaced plus your bust size can change. I get measured when Im due to replace my bras to make sure Il be buying the right size. You can packs of new knicks cheap enough. Keep the old ones for times you dont to wear decent ones or as mum does, use them for dusters.
Also why were the scrimpers portrayed as being slightly mad? Mrs Moneypenny looked mad as a box of frogs. People who are sceptical of moneysaving will sneer at her and think we all wear clashing colours and patronise.
I saved 4 colleagues in work hundreds of pounds on car insurance. Showed them how to do a thorough search on comparison sites then join Quidco and get cashback. They were well impressed, we did this whilst eating homemade banana bread:T Iam now known as Thrift Guru lol:rotfl:I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -
Wow! Some very harsh comments on here! It's coming across a bit 'we are better'.
Personally - I thought it was entertaining. If people who have no OS way of living then this may give them some ideas of inspire them to look further. I agree that a lot more could have been incorporated and a lot of ideas that can easily be brought into modern life BUT it's at least a step in the right direction surely?House saving Targets:

I watched it with an open mind and found some tips that I hadn't encountered before so think it was worth it for me. I personally liked the sound of the nettle pasta and think it would be good with some hm wild garlic pesto. I simply ignored the bit with the family as it was so far removed from any circumstance I have ever been in that wasn't able to relate to it.

I may have misheard but Miss Moneypenny seemed to claiming that if the family from Birmingham had five takeaways a week it would cost them £50 a week. We don't eat takeaways but do get the menus pushed through the door . Judging from the prices around here it would be very difficult to buy a takeaway for a family of four for £10- £15-£20 would be a more realistic figure.0

I have just read the comment and I'm about to go and watch it on catch-up I will let you know afterwards it sound totally loopyto be on that sort of cash and be in trouble though I have a very good lifestyle with three weeks a year holiday by careful planning and eating fresh friut and veg as much as possible I don't have take-aways as I really am not keen and I would rather cook it myself anyway from scratch as I know whats going in it anyway .
