I thought Super Scrimpers was miles better last night as just a straight collection of tips (I think my favourite was the 'string across the paint can' one - maybe it stated the obvious to everyone else, but it wasn't one I'd heard of or thought of before). It's a shame it was the last one, just as it got markedly better, and I'd like to think they'd keep that format instead of the usual one. Judging by the appeal to viewers at the end though, it looks like they'll be keeping the 'financial makeovers' in future series.
Since they seem to think these are necessary, I hope that they show those being made over as normal people with normal failings next time, rather than as ridiculously dense examples of walking financial lunacy that have clearly been contrived for 'shock' value and for the 'benefit' of the camera. There is nothing wrong with a bit of human fallibility (I warmed a bit to Miss Moneypenny when she swore off chocolate as she climbed the ladder, only to be seen enthusiastically eating pizza in the next scenes), but you can go too far. I think we'd all prefer to see people we can admit that we'd relate to instead of stupidity so extreme that you don't feel you can relate to it at all.
From the way the series has evolved since it started, I get the impression that the people behind it have been reading the feedback on here and taking some of it on board (I don't remember seeing any irrelevant wartime footage this week, and it was good to see some more new and younger faces too - 'car tips' guy was great) and so I thought it might be worth posting. I like the way it's starting to shape up now - 'Super Scrimpers - made by super scrimpers, for super scrimpers'Freddie Starr Ate My Signature

Nv remover in nail varnish to make it last longer. No !!!! sherlock:eek::eek::eek::eek:
Not good for your nails, though. I have found some polishes last a lot longer without going gloopy than others.Ida_Notion wrote: »I think my favourite was the 'string across the paint can' one - maybe it stated the obvious to everyone else, but it wasn't one I'd heard of or thought of before
My Dad taught me that when I was about 8 or 9I have parents who were children/early teens during WW2, so they are naturally thrifty.
Everytime I watch things like this I am so grateful to my Mum's god daughter, who taught me to sew, as it's been one of the most useful skills I've ever learned in terms of saving money!Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.

I'm just catching up on 4oD and I must agree - this week seems much better! I would go a little further and get rid of Merryn. She annoys me far more than Mrs M.
I feel there should be a little man at the bottom of the screen, interpreting for the old school savers: "Buying from Pizza Hut? Why not make your own instead? Here's the recipe!" etc.
Is anyone else tempted to throw in their hat and become one of the superscrimpers next year?MFW 2019 #61: £13,936.60/£20,0000 -
I loved the little gloves the young girl made, I'm definately going to try that one. The string across the paint was a good one for me too, more to stop the mess than for the amount saved, but good tip. There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion0

to NEVER have gloopy nail varnish ever again, keep it in the fridge, all the time
even ones that have gone gloopy will be revived and you will have silky smooth streak free nails every time:D0 -

This is not an option when you have dozens of nail polishes and a fridge full of Oopsies and leftovers. I'm known for loving my nail polish more than most people, but I'd give the Oopsies priority every timeFreddie Starr Ate My Signature

It certainly seemed to have improved a bit and better tips although most of them I have used before. So I wasn't the only one yelling make the pizza yourself.I have no idea how much a take away one is but I bet its dearer even with a BOGOF than making one.My DDs has a tribe of 5 kids who love Mums home made pizza and I don't think she could afford to buy them ready made.Plus of course the kids get to pick their favourite toppings. French toast (eggy bread) my children adored when they were small but I never put sugar on it as they liked it savoury, and had some grated cheese on it instead0

I thought it was odd putting sugar on it too (and the amount of sugar!). You would not put sugar on egg and fried bread, so I don't see why eggy bread should be any different. Then again, I used to know a family who ate lettuce with sugar on, and apparently that's not unusual either. Just a bit yuksomeFreddie Starr Ate My Signature
