As much as I hate the 'main' part of this programme (aside from the pleasure of laughing at ridiculously stupid people who have 7 takeaways a week and buy their kids 5 X-Boxes each) I love staying tuned in for the tips from the super scrimpers! This week's show had a cheap answer to face exfoliator - Lemon juice and sugar. On a similar subject, I just thought I'd mention that for a body exfoliator I substitue the sugar for salt as it's more coarse and it works brilliant for less sensitive areas. The Lemon juice aspect is also great when trying to remove old/dodgey remains of fake tan!

I would substitute the lemon juice for olive oil. I prefer to use the sugar because it dissolves and you're not left with a scratchy mess at the bottom of the shower :)

Ah toasterman, all the Argos stores round these parts seem to have changed over to those silly little pencils...maybe the pens kept growing legs? :rotfl:

I was a little alarmed this week to hear the student overspender being told you will save £15'000 by changing your ways. She seemed quite pleased and announced it would help with paying back her loan...
Umm well not really! what it will do though is stop her becoming £15'000 overdrawn if that were at all possible.
My DD is a student at present and gets something like a £1500 overdraught limit for her last year but it was only £1000 for her first year.. There is an awful lot of peer pressure to party when a student.

Wasn't it interesting that the cheaper makeup gave exactly the same effect as the expensive?
My whole life's makeup cost is probably in the pennies rather than the pounds as I have never felt the urge to use any.

The carrot tip was handy. I have heard of using a cork to remove a broken bulb but never veg! I am much more likely to have a carrot than a cork in this house.

Lemon juice is better used on oily skins rather than dry/normal. Also, it's a photosensitiser, so don't use it in the morning and then go out in the sun.

They all use pretty much the same ingredients. The high end brands might have some *luxury* ingredients, but they're generally in very small percentages and don't really make any difference to the end product, but are used for label appeal.

(I know this because I've done a lot of research in cosmetics whilst learning to make my own.)
