Well, maybe we shouldn't just all be moaning about it on here....we've got some constructive ideas about whisch programmes were useful on this subject, & there will be loads of people who have since reached adulthood who didn't get to see them first time around, so perhaps we should all write to the BBC or Channel 4 (can't remember which channel 'Superscrimpers' is on), & request a return of Alvin and/or 'Spendaholics. Even from just this thread, that's quite a lot of letters/emails.

Channel 4 have had a similar style programme with a chap called Justin. That stated the obvious too. I cannot recall its name.

Basically it said to ask for a discount everywhere you shop.

Thats Britains Secret Shoppers isnt it. First show good then downhill from there

I loved Alvin Hall, got all his books too. Shopaholics was brill as well and delved into the reasons why people overspend. Think we need programmes on how to cook a decent meal cheaply, how to menu plan and budget but then commonsense isnt as entertaining I suppose
I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round

    ^^ This!!

Exactly my sentiments entirely. It really vexes me big time that they seem to be scouring this forum for ever more ideas. I would have a bit more time for them if they had the honesty and decency to state where they got the info from in the first place and gives us credit

I have totally and utterly given up watching it, it's starting to become a load of old tripe and I refuse to use electricity to generate it either.

I expect my rubber glove idea/useage will be the next thing that gets swooshed off to their chuffin programme. It makes me so darn angry!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

The plus side of it is that if they come on here to nick ideas they'll read this message telling them what a load of carp Mrs Fat Cat and her team are presenting!!

They should come on this thread and ask us for tips!
I watched it, but learned nothing new.

I agree totally, nothing that can't be learnt on this great site, but will probably still watch it just in case!:)

Agree with everyone re Alvin Hall, got a few of his books too, excellent stuff.
But spendaholics just annoyed me, I kept shouting at the 'mind' bloke to open his mouth when he speaks. It doesn't make you more interesting to mumble your words! Haha.

Just watched today's episode on +1, it really is awful and I am learning nothing about saving money!

What I love about Alvin Hall is that he's realistic, and also recognises the concept of a cheapskate (see Money Magic: Seven simple steps to true financial freedom) - acknowledging that people that refuse to spend a little miss out on many good things in life.

I loved it, mostly because of Jay Hunt's lifestyle tips on a budget.

  • So it's a big :iloveyou: for Mr Alvin Hall and Spendaholics, :T for the food programme with Allegra and a huge :lipsrseal for Superscrimpers then..... Looks like we should all start writing letters......
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D
