I think it's had its time & we need a much better less woffly programme. I liked Alvin Hall, Pay off your mortgage in 2 years, Spendaholics & the cookery programme with Allegra & Paul. I make a lot of home made liqueurs, but let's be honest, you still have to buy the gin or vodka, so it's not going to save anything significant, despite making nice gifts. Same as the people who makes jewelery from an old button & a shoelace......not necessary anyway. What would be useful for so many households, especially in these dire economic times would be a programme showing how many (sensible) meals can be made from 1 roast chicken, tricks for reducing essential shopping bills, essential cleaning products reduced to a minimum, etc. Another useful thing for beginner moneysavers would be how to set up a store cupboard for the first time....the most useful items to include, etc. Or which veggies are most cost effective to grow. 'Superscrimpers' just fiddles around the edges. I think Spendaholics sooooo needs a new series. It's perfect for the times we are living in.
Totally agree!! Have been frugal the majority of my life, the most tips I have learnt/discovered have been on this site.
Thank you MSE!

Completely agree. All of those programmes were brilliant and why was there no second series of the cookery programme? Hasn't Superscrimpers also been cut from an hour to 30 mins? Well if they're going to do that I'd prefer 30 mins of "how to" rather than "this is what I say" etc. Wow - cheaper travel booking in advance etc? Gosh, what a shock.... etc.... So need Alvin Hall and Spendaholics back on our TV..... I might have to write a letter to the BBC - that said they do very well with Rip Off Britain.....But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0 -
I've said before, we need a Martha Stewart type programme on British TV. Not that I've seen one of her shows in full, but think it covers most homemaking categories including home economics, crafts and cookery, (stand to be corrected if not right).
Kirsty Allsop could have done a M Stewart type of programme but she went down the road of showing us how to do things, just so long as you had a professional with all of his tools and machinery, to show you how.0 -

I remember they once did a bit about how it's cheaper if you book your airport parking in advance. When they were stopping people at the parking place and asking them about what they had done, each and every one of them HAD booked in advance! No lessons learnt there then!0 -

I only caught a bit while changing channels, given up on it as well because it's mostly a load of rubbish. I did notice they are still coming on here and nicking bits!
^^ This!!
Exactly my sentiments entirely. It really vexes me big time that they seem to be scouring this forum for ever more ideas. I would have a bit more time for them if they had the honesty and decency to state where they got the info from in the first place and gives us credit
I have totally and utterly given up watching it, it's starting to become a load of old tripe and I refuse to use electricity to generate it either.
I expect my rubber glove idea/useage will be the next thing that gets swooshed off to their chuffin programme. It makes me so darn angry!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Wow thanks everyone for all the replies so far.
I too loved Alvin Hall, Can you remember his amazing laugh!!! He gave out such good advice. I also loved spendaholics. I was really hoping that this series of Superscripers would be worth watching. But since so many of you have pointed out, it misses the mark in so many ways, so I will not go out of my way to watch it. Just as well really, as I can't get 4 on demand to work on my computer :mad:0 -
Channel 4 have had a similar style programme with a chap called Justin. That stated the obvious too. I cannot recall its name.
Basically it said to ask for a discount everywhere you shop.0 -
The lady they showed who was allegedly a fashionista was seen carrying a Basler carrier bag. Now I used to work in a shop that sold Basler and yes it was expensive but not the sort of thing this lady was seen to be wearing! She appeared to have the philosophy of quantity over quality and boy was some of it tat! And she didn't look any better after her £50 makeover. How old was she anyway? She seemed to be dressing at least 10 years younger than her actual age with the Adidas tracky top and harem jeans??? Not one jot of advice was gleaned from that segment other than don't wear harem jeans once you're past 15 !!!!Grocery challenge June 2016

I also watched this show and wasn't impressed. The easter egg bit was just silly, 'snapability' I put my creme egg ones in the fridge and they snap just fine after that, so I'll stick with my cheap eggs!
The best bits of those shows are where people actually make things or use thrifty ways to fix/clean things etc. I wish the show had more of those parts!0
