Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 25th March. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Didn't sleep well last night, still it means the washing was on the line a 4am.
Packups done, too early to feed the fish so I'm sat here with a cuppa until it's time to take hubby to the station.
Social services have decided I'm unsuitable & won't be going forward with a CRB check to enable my to babysit the foster children, I'm very upset as my DD needs a break sometimes & insulted by their attitude. I already have a CRB with my current job, I am a First Aider & we have regular Child Protection training at work, all that count's for nothing it seems, as I don't have a current passport I must be a !!!!!phile.
I'm glad it's Friday, it's very busy at work & therefore very hot & draining. Melbourne GP this weekend, so hubby will be glued to the TV & we will be up very early.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good Morning H/Hester and all who follow, I would kick off big time about the daft social worker if I were you.she doesn't seem to know much about CRB checks. Not everyone in this country owns a passport or even wants one at almost a hundred quid a chuck. My one expires next year and I will have to decide if I want to renew it or not.
Well looking out of the window it seems to be very foggy at the moment, but it was like this yesterday and the sun eventually burnt it off by lunchtime.Fingers crossed today. No shopping to buy today but history class this afternoon.which is all about the coal industry during the Industrial Revolution.Apart from that and a little bit of ironing today will be a quiet one.Hope eveyone has a good day, and an even better weekend
    Cheers chumc

Good morning to one and all!

Hester - I am so sorry that it was decided that you weren't suitable; you obviously are so what on earth are they thinking. It should have nothing to do with whether or not you have a passport, should it?

The weather has been wonderful this week, as it has back in the UK from what I've seen on the news. Long may it continue, after such a long cold winter for everyone!

I seem to be permanently knee deep in paperwork - even more so here in France; the red tape is horrendous and never-ending and really drives me round the bend!

Anyway, a bit more paperwork this morning then friends are popping round this afternoon for a chat and a cuppa and I'm really looking forward to that.

DGD3 is over a week old now and is doing very well. She definitely feeds a lot and luckily, DIL2 is managing to keep up with her!

My BIL has started his chemo this week and, so far, is feeling good, so we're all keeping our fingers crossed. He wasn't going to have it but something, probably my sister, has changed his mind.

Anyway, dinner tonight is yet to be decided - as it's warm it'll be salad with something!

Hope you all have a great day!

  • morning all:D

been up since silly o clock with DS again and what little sleep I had was interrupted by DH snoring, thrashing about etc:cool:
Need to clean through house today and make my birthday cake for tomorrow as DS is insisting on the usual birthday tea;)
Cleaned cat tray and hamster yesterday so at least that is done and I caught up with the ironing.
I want to get all camping stuff out the shed this weekend to get it on Ebay as camping isnt working for us:cool:.....want to make some room in the shed and make some money towards paying stuff off.
Worked out yesterday that I may be able to hand notice in at the end of Nov:T....will see where we stand financially nearer the time;)
I want to be free to concentrate on DS .
HH just says it all about organisations these days....too many rules, regulations and protocols....NHS is the same. I would fight it if I were you.

Sistercas glad to hear about the job:j was thinking of you this week.
Looks like DH may be off with migraine today:o he has had some tablets and gone back to bed and will see how it goes.....he will get in the way of my cleaning if he is off, can never get it done when he is hanging about.

    Morning all,

Looks as if it is going to be a lovely day today. I am going to a church friends house today for coffee. Will just have to make some biscuits to take.

Will come back and read the thread once the brood has gone to school.

Managed to get the DW on and a wash in last night.

DH went to sleeop on the bed last night once the brood was in bed. He woke up when I went up and had a go at me for not waking him <rolls eyes> but I know if I hadn't he would have moaned as well.

Hester - stupid woman from SS - all my love and positive vibes to you today. xxx

NPM - we're about to attempt holidays in a camper van. My DS isn't as far down the spectrum as yours - and we're hoping that the familiar surroundings of the van might enable us to have a calmer holiday! Its cost a lot though - means I can't try and buy the field from the neighbour to give the children more space to play, and we won't be paying so much off the mortgage, but we could go away anytime (when its paid for!!!). Let me know on FB what you're selling as I might be interested!

Today DS1 has been up since I don't know when oclock, but has been playing on the wii, so fairly quiet. House clean and tidy from yesterday - but have the rugs to hoover :( Forgot the washing on the line last night, so that stayed out all night. Planning on cleaning the oven, ebaying a load of clothes, and then off to the school jumble sale where I'm helping out. First load in the WM already. Friend and her 3 children coming over to the jumble sale and then for tea tonight. Her OH is in Afghanistan. Fish and chips (from the freezer) for tea for us all.

Seems today has been a bit disappointing for quite a few people - hope it gets better as the sun rises. xxx
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning all

Another lovely day - feels a little cooler but I'm loving the sunshine.

Had the day off yesterday and managed a potter in the garden for an hour or so, just emptying pots that had dead things in and topping some others up with new compost.

Work today and tomorrow - meeting in mid Wales, good job it's only 3 times a year - bit of a trek although it's a lovely drive especially in weather such as this.

DW was on overnight and I have at least a couple of WM loads to get done. Other than that HW is pretty much up to date. HM chilli already out of the freezer for dinner cos I didn't eat it yesterday.

    Good Morning all,

Still bright and sunny here, and better still its Friday!
HH, what a barmy decision  Social Services are such a waste of tax payers money sometimes. There's no "joined up" approach. I was a brownie leader once, and therefore regularly CRB checked, and had to be checked independently when I was going into my daughters school to help some of the kids with their reading.. total waste of time and money. One certificate should suffice for all occasions.

Well thanks to "flying" this week, my house has remained tidy and clean all week so not much to do tonight, so shall go to the pub instead of housework  yet another reason to love this forum!

My dad is delivering a sofabed later today, and hopefully DH will be getting out his paint rollers this weekend to tart up the front room, which is my daughters room - she has a tiny bedroom, so we gave up the prospect of a dining room many years ago and let her have a "playroom", its now more of a teenage hang out, so we need to "grownupify" for her now. The sofabed will be a useful addition as my parents and other family members are 100 miles away and sometimes its just too much for them to come here and go back in a day.

OS wise, washing is on the line, ironing is up to date, and dw needs emptying so I'll say happy friday all!
