Oh, some good hand cream if she's into outdoor pursuits.

As a mum of adult children myself I think your idea is really lovely and the list of goodies you've drawn up sound great.

One suggestion I have is that, unless your mum is super keen on Tescos, you could make the gift a little more special and luxurious (probably without spending any more money) by using the Waitrose delivery service. Waitrose deliver any orders over £50 free (so you save the Tescos' delivery charge) and have a commitment to price matching to Tescos etc on thousands of products. They also have a £10 meal deal on at the moment (finishes 30th March but I guess you will get it if you order before then). Their meal deals sounds delicious and you have the choice of wine or chocolates, which sounds good if your mum doesn't drink.

I used the Waitrose service for the first time last week and was really impressed with the quality and service.

If your mum has a freezer then how about adding some luxury ice cream in her favourite flavour? I'd also add a couple of packets of some really luxurious biscuits.

What a wonderful idea. I got my mums Mothers Day present today. I chose a teddy and a mug from Card Factory but just before they gift wrapped it for me, i put my own stamp on it by adding a Cath Kidston Wild Rose Hand Cream and a Nivea Soft Rose Lip Balm. I got the hand cream from my local department store who are doing a 10% discount in their cosmetics department until the end of the month. I had a whiff of the tester and it smells absolutely gorgeous. My mum works in a cold poultry factory and is the most selfless person ive ever known. I love her so much and she deserves the best.

The Tesco Finest pork medallions are nice - there's six in a pack, so could easily be frozen in twos, or threes once the pack is opened. They're also on the 3 packs for £9 offer.

How about some nice biscuits that she wouldn't normally buy - Fox's chunkie extremely chocolatey cookies are particularly indulgent. Or maybe some Tunnocks caramel wafers.

There's also a brand called Look What We Found, which does lovely ready meals in pouches, which can be kept in the cupboard and have a long shelf life. www.lookwhatwefound.co.uk

They're half price in Tesco atm, so between 99p and 1.49 a pouch. I can thoroughly recommend the lamb hotpot and the beef in black velvet porter.

Bear in mind that if anything posh you order is out of stock, Tesco may well substitute with a Tesco Value product, rather than something in the same sort of price bracket. If naturally frugal, your mum may well accept the cheapo product, which may not be what you want.

Just something to think about when considering whether to allow substitutions.

Things that keep a long time and/or that can be stored out of the fridge/freezer would be good. Your mum's freezer may well be packed to the brim with whoopsies, so be careful not to buy too many frozen products.

Lovely idea, hope it goes down well with your mum. :)

I think this is a lovely idea and you have been given some great suggestions but I hope you have remembered to book a time slot.

You can specify which items you would like them substituting for but they seem to have changed their policy after a lot of complaints they usually go up a brand and charge for the item you ordered.

    'Posh' crisps or nuts?
    A DVD / book
    Finest sausages
    Fresh cut fruit
    Cup cakes
    Salmon en croute
Smoked salmon, cream cheese and bagels for aluxury breakfast?

Just mentally going round the aisles :rotfl:. Like the idea of Waitrose as well, just to 'posh' it up a bit more.

I assume she has a freezer ? And what about some veggies to go with that steak / salmon.

I would also consider having it delivered on Saturday or she may have sorted her meal out for Sunday;)
