I've recently just bought an iPod off ebay... only to find out the seller has become an unregistered user a day later!
He's emailed me advising I will still get my iPod, but, as you will understand, I'm not too hopeful!
Thankfully I paid through ebay, paypal and via a credit card, so if I don't get the iPod, at least I should be covered somewhere for the monies!
If I'm ever buying anything of value from ebay, I always use a credit card. There's too many dodgy people out there!0 -

Hate to worry you James but this is exactly what happened to me except I didn't go Ebay / Paypal route sadly. If you are prepared to PM me the area he comes from I would be interested to know if we are dealing with one and the same scammer!!!0 -
Hi Bigjoe,
Yes it was an Ebay Scam, plausible as it seemed at the time even though i have been an Ebayer for over 4yrs and should have known better.
As i have said before " GET THE POLICE INVOLVED ITS THEIR JOB " if they refuse initially say you will report it to the Chief Constable that usually gets them huffing & puffing.0 -
I would get your bank to trace the funds I have it had done in the past and it confirmed where the money had gone and who had recieved it.
Then, with this information send a letter special delivery to the address you have stating that unless you receive the item or a refund for full amount you will start a small claims case against them.
If he does live with his parents, it may turn out that he is not old enough to sell on ebay and this will then fall to his parents to sort out.

Good Luck
I beleive that he is over 18 as he appears on the electoral roll - I checked his address against thsi before sending the money. I am currently waiting to hear back from his social worker and still trying to pursue this with the police but with no luck at the moment. I am slightly loathe to take him to the small claims court (from what I have learnt the mere threat or even a judgement will not result in him sending my money back) as I have been advised that even if I win (at a cost to me ) it will still be down to me to pursue him for the money! Just seems like throwing good money after bad0 -
BUMP BUMP!
please let us know whats going on, i've been following this story with interest!
nail the scum!0 -
I wonder how many others he has done this to?????? You are maybe only the tip of the iceberg, I would certainly report it, as I doubt if you have a cat in hells chance of getting your money back. Sorry to be so blunt. I'm afraid your money will have either gone down the drain, or in a syringe. These people are nothing but scum.0

Thanks for the bump! I am going to contact his probabtion officer tomorrow as she hasn't come back to me yet and if she has had no luck I am going to try and go back to the police. My problem with this is that the station is an 0845 number for the whole area and I only get through to an admin department who log the call and take details - anyone got any ideas as to how I could actually get through to a policeman and insist that they treat this as fraud and not a civil case as they previously advised when they called me back??????0

I fear the social worker probation officer will feel the need to be p.c. and adhere to data protection.Sorry to be blunt ,but dont take !!!!!!,you dont have to.This CAN be resolved,DO NOT give up."Dont let the bad guys win",have pm d you.I suspect Furndire is spot on.0

I think my reaction would be to try and speak to the police in his area, as he is already on probation, he obviously has a record, and this might just be what they need to get him put away. Its sounds as though his parents will be grateful for that as well. As regards going down the county court route, you can't get back what he hasn't got - so you will be throwing good money after bad0
