Sky Internet

  • How odd! I have to say, my parents have Sky and I've never noticed any problems when using it round theirs, although it does seem to work slower on Internet Explorer than Chrome. Could just be my hatred of IE though?

Edit: pahah, this is my work connection though: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1214467242.png

No, it's because Internet Explorer IS slower than Chrome

On Infinity its still copper from your house to the pole and from the pole to the cabinet. Then its Fibre to the exchange.

Correct, correct name is FTC - or Fibre To Cabinet

I'm with Sky and get the maximum speed that my line can handle (according to BT Wholesale) - which is 4.5MB/s. My upload is 0.7MB/s.

It would be nice to get closer to that "up to" 8MB speed as advertised though.

I didn't want to be shot down in flames in case I was completely wrong, but I knew it! It seems to only be a couple of nanoseconds but when you've been using Chrome for a while you tend to really notice it.

    A couple of things:

Are you using WIFI or wired conection to the router?

Is the router plugged into the main telephone socket?

I have BB from Sky, and (even though I live in the sticks) I never have a problem with their speeds.

I'm using wifi connection, router is plugged into the main telephone socket. On the other hand, just done another test and speed seems to be much better today (for now anyway) http://www.speedtest.net/result/1215095286.png

I'm pleased with my Sky connection too, it's the most consistent and stable I've had out of Sky, o2 and Tiscali

Have you just signed up with Sky, if so it might still be balancing out.

Do Sky still cap upload at 0.7 or has anyone got a higher speed? I get quicker using my mobile phone for upload.

gemma, are you a new customer with sky? and have you got all your phone lines set up correctly? (all filtered the right way round)?

the problem aswell with browser-based speed tests is that they don't account for other activity on the line, i.e. other users or programmes using the connection at the time of the speed test.
