Sky Internet

Its bloody awful! If you phone up they say they're 'sending signals down the line' whatever that means and thats it, thats their only option for everything! ARGH!! It doesn't work and when it does its stupidly slow.
My line is supposed to support around 13meg, internet is for upto 20meg so should be capable enough of getting something decentish.
Just done a speed test- Download speed is 0.39mbps and upload speed is 0.07.
I'm sick to death of phoning and complaining- anybody got any other ideas or similar problems?

I'm on sky internet and just tested my connection. Download speed was 4.31 and upload speed 0.50 - so a bit better than yours.
We're thinking of keeping Sky tv and phone, but changing the internet to virgin or bt for faster speed.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:wave:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 -
Sign up for VirginMedia broadband & Phone or register your interest in BT Infinity, get onto Fibre-Optic broadband, old fashioned copper-wire broadband is going as fast as it can go over ancient copper wiring that was never designed to handle such volumes of data...
We're on the lowest and cheapest VM package and this is the speed we get, actually it's a faster result than normal, so I'm impressed!!!

On Infinity its still copper from your house to the pole and from the pole to the cabinet. Then its Fibre to the exchange.
Virgin media is still coax from the house to the cabinet. And then Fibre to the Headend.
I used to get 22mb on "old fashioned copper-wire" on an isp called Be Unlimited who use no fibre on the local loop. Its all dependent on distance from exchange and quality of wiring0 -
I went back to virgin because my connection speed with sky never even reached 1MB and it kept dropping the connection.0

Ours was the same with Sky. I cancelled it and went with VIrgin media, however I cancelled that as Virgin was messing me about. Tried going back to Sky, but they said I would have to pay EXTRA because when I left, my 'allocated' spot was taken by someone else, she they would need to rent it off someone else, meaning I would pay over £20 a month for it. I was only paying £5 a month before as I had TV and Phone with them.
I'm with Orange Broadband now, but it's still slow.

This should tell you what you SHOULD be able to get in your area.
It might not be Sky Broadband that is the problem, it could be your area? Plus the more people who use the same broadband, the slower it is as you're all fighting to use it at the same time (unless it's cable - I think)
I SHOULD be able to get 4mb near me......... Thank you to everyone!

Funny, because I'm sure you could have said the same about dial-up speeds.
While fibre and coax have significant advantages over copper, technological improvements will continue to increase the speed of data rates over copper.0 -
Just did the postcode test that Rachel_Murray suggested...
"Standard broadband
Up to 8Mb (estimated speed: 6Mb)
High speed broadband
Up to 24Mb (estimated speed: 11Mb)
Cable broadband
Not Available"
Major problem here is that I can't get cable at all, also another obvious problem is that the connection speeds that it says I could get are nowhere near the connection speeds that I am getting
Anybody got any other ideas for providers? The ones suggested on here(top10.com) are pretty hopeless as I want unlimited broadband and theres no chance in hell that I'm touching talktalk with a bargepole!0 -
A couple of things:
Are you using WIFI or wired conection to the router?
Is the router plugged into the main telephone socket?
I have BB from Sky, and (even though I live in the sticks) I never have a problem with their speeds.0
