    Wow. How !!!!!!.

Why would they give you a huge subsidy on an iPhone, then allow you to drop to the lowest tariff? They'd never earn back the handset cost, let alone cover the airtime.
If you contract to £X per month for 24m, that's what you are legally bound to. Any earlier change is entirely discretionary.

You sound like the discount is something definite. Is it?
Also, if it's a 24 months contract the early termination charge is likely to be bigger than the proceedings.
You pay the remainder of the tariff - VAT, and apparently they give you a 2% discount as well.

It's worth noting that at no point has the OP said how long this contract has left to run, and how much it is for, so at the moment we're just guessing :)

    Why wouldn't they?

I'm on an O2 24 month iPhone contract, and last year they let me down grade my tariff twice, from £45 to £40 then to £35! But I had to wait 30 days between downgrades.
  • It's also worth stating that refusing to pay the rest of the contract will result in your credit record being affected for 6 years.

I would suggest selling the iphone and paying off the contract as suggested above. Somehow I don't think that is what the OP is wanting to hear.

lol, yeah..somehow I don't think the OP cares about their credit file.
  • Why not? Surely it's in their best interests to lower the tariff rather than have to chase a debt.

As I previously stated. Its the new way of working with Vodafone's "YourPlan" tariffs..... which they forget to tell upgraders sometimes.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for the advice that you have given to mandyl so far.

Mandyl – I am concerned to read that you are unable to pay your bill at the moment and I would like to help you with this. As a business we understand that sometimes, people are unable to pay their bills on time, with this in mind I’d like to look into your account and take a look at what we can do to help you at the moment.

Although we won’t be able to drop your price plan down (as discussed previously this isn’t something that we offer anymore) I am certain that we can arrange some form of payment plan which would stop your credit rating from being damaged, which could happen if you simply stopped paying the bill.

So that we can help, could I please ask that you contact the Web Relations Team – Vodafone UK using the subject line WRT135 and our team will be more than happy to discuss your options and help you further.

    Thanks,
