Have you spoken to any of the DV charities ? they may be able to offer advice?
Another option of course is to go bankrupt then they wil have to chase the ex.

It was different with my case, as I was married. The Git had £49k of debt and I almost fainted when I found out. The house and my car had to be sold to pay it off, as being married I was considered responsible for the loans that were even 'just' in his name.
It is devastating, I know, but sadly, not a lot that can be done about it.
I suggest you check your credit record though and make sure that it is known that you are not together anymore - The Git actually tried to get another loan saying we were...
I'm sorry you're facing this.0 -
A relative was left in horrendous debt as her husband got her to just sign forms for money he was moving around. She eventually had to go bankrupt. Matter went through Courts and there was nothing they could do. I really don't think there is anything you can do here as you signed the paperwork.0

Yep I know, this shouldn't be allowed to go on though. Maybe if I kick up enough stink they may change their policy on cases like this. Maybe a letter to my local MP may help lol. Pigs might fly!
I'm completely bewildered as to why you are kicking up such a fuss. It's as if you are blaming the banks for your decision to get together with this guy, as if someone else (at the bank) should have been looking out for you.
From your description of him, it's a fair guess he isn't holding down much of a job and thus, little income so even if they were to chase him, it sounds like he doesn't have the means to pay in any case.
My words are harsh but you really need to look at yourself in all of this, you made those decisions to sign the dotted line, not the bank.
Of course you have the option to stop repaying and ignore the letters, you can rest assured they will be chasing him in the same way (not that he sounds like he would care much for his credit rating). They always go for the easier target.0 -
This OP is mind blowing.
Whilst having a lot of sympathy for her, how is the system supposed to protect people like her?
The only way I can think of, is to put her into the financial care of a third party, to prevent her exercising her free will over her finances.
Could alway try getting insurance against getting ripped off I suppose, but try putting that in legal language that will avoid people setting up a scam.
In life, there is no eraser to rub out the mistakes we make.0 -
lala9,
Take no notice of all the people who think it is fine to have a go at you over this as they are both small minded and have nothing better to do than to ridicule others for mistakes that they both neither caused nor wanted.
You do seem to get a lot of people on here here that are only to willing to get there 2 pence worth of criticism in and its probably as they have no life barring the pc in front of them and are living on goverment hand outs and abusing the system.
People come on here for advice and a lot of you do think that you can just have a go at them and say they are stupid and it is there own fault when a vast majority of these cases there is a lot more behind these situations and it is not all black and white !0 -

Thanks! Funnily enough I was just thinking about the comments on my drive to work and considering why I bothered to post in the first place. It does make me smile however, some people on here have taken great pleasure in picking over my previous posts which are not relevant to the question I have asked. Ok, it is my fault that I signed, it is my fault that I stayed in a horrible relationship for too long, but bar from posting the entire police investigation on here no one would understand the circumstances surrounding this. But thanks for your support :-)
I believe many are sympathetic, it is more a matter of your opening post which seemed to suggest that the bank should take some of the blame. They are a totally innocent party in all this.0
