I believe many are sympathetic, it is more a matter of your opening post which seemed to suggest that the bank should take some of the blame. They are a totally innocent party in all this.
Indeed they are! But I do think cases like this should be taken more seriously.

    By Whom?

I ask, as I am genuinely interested? I too was left with a loan and 2 credit cards by an ex and have spent years paying money back.

Rightly or wrongly, the banks don't care, they gave you the money in good faith, they expect to get it back in good faith.

Yep I know, this shouldn't be allowed to go on though. Maybe if I kick up enough stink they may change their policy on cases like this. Maybe a letter to my local MP may help lol. Pigs might fly!

If you believe nonsense like this, you are absolutely crazy.

The loan company should take it more seriously. If you can prove that you have not benefitted from the loan whatsoever then why should you pay for something that you have not had.

You are sounding crazy. Why did you apply for the loan and sign for it?

You reached the age of consent and are considered an adult. Part of being an adult is taking responsibility for your actions.

You DID receive the loan. The fact that you let this guy spend it was your decision.

If you choose to borrow money and give it away, I cannot see why that means you should not pay it back. You are sounding like a five year old now and it is beginning to look like a wind up.

That's just silly. You signed for it and you're liable to pay it. I find it incredible that you think you should be able to walk away from it - it isn't the loan company's job to work out how loans are used, and who benefits from them!

If two people sign for a loan agreement then they should be liable for half each, if they split up then they should both be chased for their half of the loan, if the loan company cannot find one person then thats tough, as long as the other partner pays her/his half then thats their part of the agreement settled and they should not be hounded for the whole lot.

Whether the OP has grounds for complaint in regards the loan, this is a person claiming to have suffered domestic violence.

Surely on an internet forum designed for friendly help and advice the benefit of the doubt should be given and a little more respect shown by those above with thousands of posts and stars and so on?

Back to the top, I think your best idea would be to get in touch with DV charities and seek advice from the CAB to see if legally you have a leg to stand on.

Unfortunately doesn't sound promising and you may well be left with the full debt to pay yourself.

What you could do is prioritise though, pay it off first before taking holidays and making big purchases.

    Good luck.
