  • When your renewal comes up try Admiral, Elephant and Bell, they are all part of the same group as Diamond. Use different comparison sites also, such as gocompare, uswitch, confused and travelsupermarket, you get different prices from different comparison sites. One more thing, we had my son as main driver, and my husband on as named driver, we then added myself on after and it brought down the price by £260. My son was with elephant and earlier last year, made a claim, £3,000 in total, spent ages worrying what the premium was going to be at renewal. They wanted to renew for £1400, so I thought that was not too bad, but did a quote on the comparison sites, got a quote from Diamond for £900, rang Elephant to inform them and they matched it. So even though we had a claim and the no claims discount went back to 1 year, we got it for £500 less, so please please do not auto renew!!!!!!!
  • Hi
My son age 17 passed his test 2 days ago. I have followed all the advise on MSE and got a quote from Adrian Flux for £2288. This is with the black box limiting him to 2000 miles py which i'm pretty sure he will be able to do. excess is £400. He also works in the motor trade which hikes up these quotes!
    He owns a ford fiesta 1.2 1999 (s)

what does everyone on here think of that quote?

    thanks

2000 miles maybe used in a few weeks.. Thats very very low. And they will know the instant he exceeds that.

Seriously think about upping that. Will he really do less than 40 miles a week?
It maybe costly to alter that later compared to increasing it before it starts.
And as i mentioned with the black box they know where he is 24/7. So no sneaking ove the agreed limit that know.

And unlike a lad on another forum, Dont think that removing the boxes fuse will sort that issue. By 9:30 the next morning he had a phone call enquiring why the box had a power cut.

When i got my 1st car i drove everywhere. 2000 miles would not have lasted long.

I'm 23 years old with 2 years NCD, I've had to add my mum onto my policy as a Named Driver to bring it down, I pay £1,100 per year for a 1.6 Focus, without my mum they want £1,600+

If you want a tip add 1 or both of your parents as named drivers
Does it have to be the parents, or can it be any family member or friend?

As long as they tell you of any accidents or incidents they have.

If they get a ticket for speeding and you fail to declare this to your insurance then you could be in trouble.

So you need to know and keep tracks on them.

Value of the car is unlikely to change it much. It could be down something like the postcode where you live....I have read some young people in areas of the country cannot even get a quote!

Some insurers wont want older cars and some wont wont newer cars. Swings and roundabouts.

If i put my car as £1999 i get some different insurers listed compared to putting £2001.

Take some prices with a pinch of salt. Possibly doing naughty things.

A lot get caught out. Insurers know the score.

  • Thank you for replys, could be postcode then, we live in forest of Dean, didnt think value of car would make alot of difference, anyone had a good quote from anyone and live in rural area
  • Hi
Have you tried www.ingenie.co.uk , they fit a small black box, admitted my son still pays £1600 but this was far cheaper than any other quotes.
Also I get an email letting me know how he is driving.

One can only try, Its so frustrating.
