santander - jobsworths

I have just been to pay a friends credit card off for her as she is in hospital having undergone a serious operation and is therefore depending on me, which i'm happy to do. I went to pay her 'asda' credit card statement off, it says on the bottom of the payment slip quite clearly SANTANDER BANK -one would assume then that there wasn't a problem with paying in an actual santander bank? I, myself hold a account with them (santander) in anycase and was paying money into my account anyway, so therefore was already needing to be there. But no! because 'she' does not hold an account with them (santander) they refused to process the payment...:mad:I was told to go to the bank which she has an account with in order to make the payment to the credit card which is of course themselves... ......have you ever heard the likes of it! I waited for the assistant to begin to process my own request, and then asked her to cancel it, return all of my money and close my account with them immediately, and refused to move until they did it and said if you don't I will stand outside and tell everybody about their awkwardness. Funnily enough they have done it, closed it forthwith as I requested. I then had to go across town to another bank which is the one my friend used and I have opened an account with them today now. What jobsworths santander are...Any body else had a similar experience?:(

  • Erm, Santander are the handling Bank for the ASDA credit card. The money needs to be paid in through the account holders bank/account for it to be completed to be showed as paid. Thats how it works as far as i can remember..

I think you may have over reacted a tad here.

Yes, I have experienced similarly difficult and unreasonable customers.

Your getting the different departments muddled up here. If you friend had a santander bank account then that would be fine. She didnt so you have to pay it in via her branch.

Go mention this in the banking forum as i may have got it wrong but i cannot remember ever paying in something for a different account at a different bank.

    ASDA finance are NOT santander.

It always amuses me how when people are doing their job well, they are respected and well regarded, However when them doing their job properly involves a customer being slightly put out through their own fault the same staff instantly become Jobsworths.

ASDA Credit cards use Lloyds Tsb for paying in - the sort code is 30-00-00 I think

That said , I hold accounts with most clearing banks and they will accept my paying in slips regardless of whether the money is being paid into an account at that bank or whether I am using a cheque drawn on that bank

I simply go to the bank branch with the shortest queue and pay in there

I wouldn't use an ex-building society for bank giro credits

The best option is to pay via internet banking bill payment (avoids dealing with humans ;))

I hope it wasn't an English branch of The Royal Bank of Scotland :D
