Why do you find that funny ? Does the Bank in respect of the credit card you hold accept payment by bank giro credit only if the customer holds a current or savings account with the Bank or don't they accept payment over the counter

I doubt that it is a major bank

No my credit card is with my bank and i have always paid it through my account either over the counter in a branch or on the phone. My bank did not have a branch in the village/town i was in So i went along to another Banks branch that was in the town with my payment slip and they would not accept it - the bank , not my credit card company.

Does that make it any clearer for you now? And thats why i found it funny as you have posted exactly what i said, which was on your new giro credit. And it was because of this incident that i switched over to DD payment every month cos i couldnt be ar5ed with dealing with that sort of thing any more.

I did a very similar transaction last week.

Paid an Argos card bill off for my sister, in cash, at my local branch of Barclay's.

My sister gave me her Barclay's bank card to show to the cashier in case I had problems with them accepting the bank giro slip.

Was told by the cashier that I didn't need to prove she was a customer, because I obviously was, and they wouldn't question it, because I, as their customer was welcome to pay any bills there, as it was my convenience they were concerned with, not my sisters (although the bill was hers not mine).

It would have inconvenienced me as their customer to ask me to take it elsewhere.

A matter of not a lot of common sense being shown by the santander cashier, methinks!

Yes - that is clearer - were you a customer of the bank whose services you wished to use for the bank giro credit ? and was it a clearing bank

surely you would remember if it was a major high street bank - HSBC , Barclays , Lloyds TSB ,Natwest , RBS , Yorkshire / Clydesdale , COOP

I doubt that a major bank would accept a bank giro credit from a non - customer without a fee (unless they provide the collection account)

and (ex)building societies are even less likely to oblige

Christ it was blue i think.. I dont remember lots given how busy i can be with work at the time.

So now your admitting that a bank wouldnt accept a bank giro from a none customer - without probably a fee?

Thats what i said I understood it to be - but non acceptance at all - at the start of this thread yet you told me i was wrong and now your saying that they wont?

I am getting confused by you now.

The OP wishes to pay a bank giro credit to a Santander Consumer Credit Services Limited account with a Santander UK plc sort code at a branch of Santander UK plc

They are not asking a bank outside of the Santander UK plc group to facilitate the transaction

I have accounts with most banks - so I do not approach them as a non-customer

You approached a bank with whom you have no customer relationship and asked them to accept a bank giro credit in favour of an entity who is not a customer of that bank for clearing

You will need to check the Bank's tariff to see if they accept BGCs with a fee to non customers

Yes i get that but as i was on the understanding that as it was really a 3rd party credit card - i.e. ASDA then it had to be paid through your bank that you set up the card with - irrelevant of whom the finance provider was..

Never mind - maybe i was wrong but it does seem that they didnt want to accept the payment so there we go. And ill still stand that closing your own account because of it was a massive over reaction.

Right then im off home cos ive been at work to long.
