  • With Ebookers you also have a £630 option with BA (out) and AA (back) with slightly friendlier flight times and shorter connections, flying out of MAN at 15:30, with the return leg departing JFK at 20:25.

    Yet another option: booking direct with AA, out from MAN at 1040, 5 hour wait at at Chicago then into EWR, return leg is the same 20:25 flight as above. Priced £623

    Try searching for flights through price comparison site Kayak.co.uk - eg your search here:
    http://www.kayak.co.uk/flights/MAN-NYC/2011-04-16/2011-04-22

    Some good fares, espeically if you don't mind flying to or from Newark airport.

    And one of the £651 fares includes a hotel for 6 nights, which is a bargain if the hotel is not a fleabag (check Tripadvisor!)

    Also, if I book through Ebookers (so I can use topcashback) can I still claim airmiles, or is that only when you book direct through the airline's website?

    Yes you can claim miles with whoever you fly with, regardless of who you book through. Some airlines even have topcashback on them directly. But be wary of the possiblilty that you'll get less cashback than a cheaper flight is saving you directly.

    Going back to the orginial question, it appears the Delta and KLM bookings are on exactly the same flight. Delta are in my opinion one of the worst of the transatlantic carriers and from Manchester if I wanted a direct flight I would choose Continental but beggers can't be choosers and if there is a big difference in price the take whichever is cheapest.

    Continental maybe a better airline but they fly into Newark which is a lot further from New York than La Guardia or JFK.

    In my mind the OP has two options to seriously consider;

    1. ponying up for the Delta non-stop to JFK, I found this at £656.

    2. OR American Airlines with a connection (at Chicago) on the outbound, inbound is direct for £533 at netflights.com.

    Given the £123 difference, I would go for the American Airlines flights and use the money saved for fun in NYC.

    Actually, Newark and JFK are about the same distance from Manhatten. Newark is in the state of New Jersey, hence why it is not "officially" in New York, and the train to NY is marginally more expensive (a few $) than the subway to JFK. La Guardia is closest, but only serves short-haul flights, and has no railed connection to Manhatten, only busses.
