Hi there, thank you to yourself and everyone else, yes you are right, I cannot justify the extra £400 it would cost me just to save an hour's driving time, so London it is! My problem is, I am being a very bad mother, the 23rd is our daughter's birthday and we are trying to miss as little of it as possible, but the 22nd is my OH's birthday and I wanted him to be able to spend (even part of it) in NYC

Now to find these £401 flights and some cheap airport hotel parking, it is going to be a long night . . .

Cheapest I can find from London that is actually still available is £428 LHR-CDG-JFK with Air France; JFK-BOS-LHR with Delta. Also Opodo.

Cheapest nonstop from LON that is still available is Virgin at £482 from Netflights. Once you factor in petrol costs/parking this doesn't make it much cheaper than some of the more creative routings I posted from Manchester.

They are not available, Opodo can be (deliberately?) slow to remove sold-out fares from its system.
