I have a 19 year and a 20 year old and both their bedrooms are a tip they have ruined the carpet with makeup and general carp and they are like pig sties with more clothes on the floor than in the wardrobes. Bins seem to be in the wrong place for the rubbish to land in them!!! Both seem to think its fine to live like that and I have got to the stage I give up expecting their “clean up” to be what I would call a clean up. DO I just shut the doors for a few years until they leave or go in and just get the rooms cleaned or carrying on arguing the toss? They will change sheets and towels when I present clean ones and every week on bin day present me with a carrier ofstuff and as long as I ask regularly not too much of my crockery lives with them full time but I would so love their rooms to be CLEAN AND TIDY.

Babe 6months old and I'm wondering if I'm running out of milk. 3 nights in the last week he has slept through (1st time). 1st night I woke up really engorged, wet sheets etc, 2nd time a little bit this morning not at all. He had a good drink as soon as he woke up and I could hear him swallowing so I know milk's still there but surprised at how quickly it's dropped off. I've also not been able to express the last few times I've tried, or at least there's only been a few drops.

I also think but not sure if he is constipated through not getting enough liquid. Poo feels fairly hard and there's not much of it and this evening when I was getting ready for his bath a piece of poo kept coming out and back in again so I'm guessing he is constipated but he doesn't seem that bothered. I always thought bfed babies didn't need extra drinks and he is nursing as often as usual and I am still feeling my milk come in so I'm not really sure what's going on or what I should do about it

Hi courgette - hope I can help a little

At 6 months your milk supply is well established and your breasts are very efficient at making milk and tailoring the amount you make for the amount your baby asks for. Milk supply will increase or decrease depending on demand over a 6 - 36 hour period (every woman is different) so this maybe why you were very full the first night and less so the second. If he increases feeds at night again your milk supply should increase again very quickly so that should be reassuring for you. Is there is anything in your history to make you feel your milk supply is particularly vulnerable? Lots of mums find it hard to express past the 6 month point - it doesn't really say anything about the milk that is available as babies are much more effective than pumps at getting the milk out.

Has he been having solid foods for long? Sometimes they can get stuck into food very enthusiastically and that will replace milk intake, which at 6 months he should still be on mostly milk really. He may be teething - I've noticed poo changes and biting with both mine with teething - it can be quite common, as well as nappy rashes, red cheeks, dribbling etc etc Again its just a passing phase - although sometimes it feels like it goes on and on.

Lots of people offer water with meals once they have started introducing solids. The advice is to give it in a free-flow beaker or open cup - you might want to check the birth to five website, but I have always just given tap water in a beaker thats gone through the dishwasher - I don't sterilise the food or the bowl it goes in after all and both my babies were crawling at 6-7 months and my floors are never that clean (hence flylady following! - yay brought it back on topic:rotfl:)

It sounds like your baby has very considerately chosen to sleep through a couple of nights and your supply has adjusted well to that - if babe decides to want to feed at night again (inevitable I'm afraid!) then you should be very easily be able to supply that milk again no probs. You might want to start offering water with meals and looking at what he is eating as it shouldn't be too high-fibre at this age. If in doubt give one of the helplines a call. Hope that helps

This reminded me of when I breastfed my LO (and useful for prodding my pregnant brain as well). We started weaning Pickle onto solids at 20weeks (4 1/2 mo) and she reduced to 3BF and 1 expresesd bottle and 1 bottle of formula. As her solids appetite increased, her need for milk decreased but when I did express I noticed that the consistency had become more watery. I made sure the 3BFs were evenly spaced through the day (first thing, mid afternoon and late night) which kept supply at a nice constant level. At 7 mo I dropped the afternoon bf but moved the remaining two to 12 hours apart. At 8mo I dropped the night feed so she was only having the morning bf. At 9mo we stopped that :( (a week before I returned to work). With each drop, I'd have sore boobs for a few days - the last time I even resorted to expressing a couple of oz for some relief but two days later my boobs were back to normal.

It did mean that with each drop there'd also be an increase in WM usage dealing with wet bedding and wet clothes:rotfl:and then even more ironing for me to do:eek: I must remember to invest in LOTS of disposable breast pads (prevention of extra washing) this time round:cool:

    Good luck Courgette

I've done about as much work as i can for now. It's been quite a productive day despite both the boys off. Ds2 and i are going to spend an hour in the garden now, at the very least the rabbits need cleaning out. Then we're going to pop to the castle for a walk around before picking up Dss and coming home to cook tea. Ds1 has been in bed all day but (fingers crossed) no sick as yet.

I'm sure loads will sympathise with your situation. Only you can decide if it is a battle you want to have with them. My boys have to tidy their rooms each week, it is expected and non negotiable and always has been. That doesn't mean that prodding is not required, laptops are sometimes removed to aid the process and clothes are not washed unless they find their way to the washing basket. Mine are 17,15,9 so maybe easier than older ones. They appreciate the finished affect but that doesn't mean it stays like it all week:rotfl: I'm happy to do the cleaning but only once it is tidy, the older too strip and remake their beds, the younger one can do most of that too now.

May have sat in the sun for slightly too long, school run time now.

I was about to copy and paste from bero website when I realised that their quantities were different to the ones in my very old bero book.

    Mine are:
    125g butter
    125g caster sugar
    200g self raising flour
    3 eggs lightly beaten
    100g marmalade

Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs with a smidge of flour. Add marmalade and mix. fold in the remaning flour. Bake for 1-1 1/4 hours at GM 4 (180c/350f).

We all enjoyed a slice last night :D

I used a silicone cake tin and found the cake came out easily - no need for soaking and easy to wash:cool:
