You should have clarified that you meant Apollo, not OSF that is definitely locked.
Well, it's hard to believe, but I don't see any reasons for not believing you.
AFAIK only O2 are known to sell unlocked handsets.

It's widely known on here that CPW sell unlocked phones. It's actually pretty rare for then to get a locked one in. It's definitely unlocked, I worked for Carphone for three years and my partner still works there after eleven years, I've asked him and he says definitely unlocked and unbranded.

I may have misunderstood the OP. I thought that when saying "from '3'" they meant directly from '3', not from CPW.
CPW don't sell phones 'from'. They just sell phones with networks' sims/contracts.

Ahh, I see. Fair enough, it's easily done.

So if I buy an Orange SF with the £10 top up card, can I then unlock the phone, buy a giffgaff sim and use that, and just use the orange sim for orange wednesday?

Don't know about Wednesdays, but everything else you can (search the board).
Also, you could have checked that it's £100+£20 online (check for cashback). Don't know about stores.

In my local Orange shop it is £10 credit the same as Tesco online but I will buy from the shop as I will get the NHS 25% discount.

Orange San Francisco on Giffgaff PAYG

    What he said

But if you're even more strapped (I know I wont be spending £99 on a phone) then check out the mini touchscreen phones that almost all providers have.

Personally I would go for something from Alcatel. They have touchscreen phones and blackberry-esque full qwerty keyboard phones for around £20-£30. I have an Alcatel OT-708 and it has a touchscreen and blue LEDs. Has "widgets" on the desktop screen and everything. It looks very stylish :)

One thing with Alcatel's though is that they lack processing power, so the internet can be a real chore and is painfully slow to use.
